Board of Education must borrow to pay salaries
Hubbard The Board of Education has authorized the treasurer to borrow money from the 1962 tax revenue to pay salaries through March 1982. The 1982 tax allocation will be about $2 million and not available until tax season closes in March. Payroll averages about $190,000 every two weeks plus month end expenses including utilities and gasoline. The treasurer says about $100,000 is needed to see the year end in the black. Payrolls fall on Dec 18, Jan 1, Jan 15 and Jan 29. A new computer system may cost up to $50,000 with a $4,000 service contract. The district now pays $17,000-$18,000 yearly for similar services. The plan includes in house computer use for inventory and records and a wage raise for water safety staff and lifeguards. The school owns the community pool and pays its bills, with about 60 percent of costs tied to school programs.
