Roosevelt Elementary students in grades two through four participated in the MS Read-a-Thon raising 2132.19. Top reader Jennifer Ferguson, 300 books, earned 163 dollars and prizes including roller skates and a Wendy's free meal ticket. Other rewards included a hand puppet Rubiks cube and a stuffed dog.
The township expects about 14 million more in real estate tax receipts than its 1980 appraisal of 55 314 503 and 69 058 033 in 1981 with allocations planned for 30 706 in the general fund 110 000 in the road fund 225 515 in the police fund 42 964 in fire department funds and 15 362 in the county health fund Trustee Raymond Kulow says levies fall inside the 10 mill limit and no extra money is guaranteed. An agreement was reached on police tow calls with Lee s Auto Body and Schulte Towing Service meeting township standards for insurance and indoor storage. Karlovic may call an out of town tow if needed. The next trustees meeting is December 21 at 7 pm with Sin Die to be announced.
Santa Claus plans to land at Truck World Mall on December 12 at 1 p.m. He expects to greet youngsters with their Christmas lists as elves assist with last minute preparations. Santa notes letters from Hubbard children and promises to bring gifts for all deserving youngsters worldwide.
Warren Trumbull County Auditor Patrick J. Sullivan announced that 1982 dog licenses began sale with a $6 regular license and $30 kennel license through January 20 1982. After that date regular licenses incur a $2 penalty and kennels a $5 penalty. Licenses are sold at the Auditor’s office on the Administration Building's third floor and at Outdoor Journal North Main Street Ext Truck World and Hub Bard locations.
Milton I. Wick former publisher of The News and The Niles Daily Times died November 30 at his Scottsdale home after a long illness. Funeral services were held in Minneapolis on December 4. Wick founded Girard News and Hubbard News in the mid 1920s and owned papers across several states. He attended the University of Nebraska and earlier ran a book business with his brother before purchasing The Niles Daily Times in 1926.
Hubbard residents donated 293 pints of blood at a community drawing on Tuesday December 1. Each pint earned a drop ornament on the St. Patrick's church hall tree. Special thanks go to Hubbard High School juniors and seniors who led the effort and to Girl Scout Troop 64 under Mrs. Bobbie Stewart for their contributions.
Fourteen applications have been received for the Township Clerk position to be vacated by Helen Dubyak effective January 1, 1982. The four panel board will include trustees and Dubyak, with eligibility limited to city or township residents. The salary is set at 4,500 dollars. officials expect around thirty applicants.
The Hubbard News sets earlier submission deadlines for the December 30 and January 6 editions due to Christmas and New Year holidays. All news items and photos must reach the office at 35 W State St, Niles, Ohio by 5 p.m. the prior Wednesday.

Hubbard High Art DECA and Key Clubs sponsor a Little World shopping tour for children 12 and under from December 7 to 19. Elves guide kids through a fantasy land shop with adult waiting area for parents. Tours run Monday Wednesday Friday 3 30 to 7 30 p m and Saturday noon to 5 p m with contact numbers for special tours.
