Hubbard High Four Students to Attend World Affairs Institute

Hubbard High juniors will join nearly 1000 students from Indiana Kentucky Ohio and West Virginia at the Thirty-Third World Affairs Institute in Cincinnati. Leader Frank Quartini and four students Jill Howard Jenny Wren Chris Aeuff Seth Townsend accompany, with Rotary Club president Ben McMullen Jr. hosting.

City Council Increases Its Pay While Tables Mayor’s Raise

Hubbard city council approves a 4-3 raise for members from 125 to 150 dollars a month plus president’s hike to 175 starting January 1, 1980, while tabling mayor and law director raises. Three members oppose, arguing current pay suffices. Term sheet outlines expected mayoral 22,000 to 25,000 and law director 800 plus 200 per court.

FOP Dance Set for Saturday in Hubbard

Hubbard residents urged to attend the Fraternal Order of Police annual dance at St. Pat's church hall Saturday April 21 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tickets are 2.00 in advance and 2.50 at the door. Proceeds fund Lodge 132 activities including a college scholarship for a Hubbard High School senior entering law enforcement and a Christmas party for needy Hubbard children.

VBS Curriculum Display At Grace Lutheran Hubbard

Hubbard VBS directors and teachers are invited to a display of curriculum materials at Grace Lutheran Church 111 Hall Avenue Hubbard on April 26 at 1 pm and 7 pm. A nursery will be provided. Crab Creek Sewer Study planned for Hubbard and Liberty Townships

A Canton engineering firm begins design and surveying for the Crab Creek Sewer Study to divert sewage from Liberty and Hubbard Townships into Youngstown. The plan targets the southeast Liberty and southwest Hubbard areas with interceptor and collector pipes, with bids expected in late 1980-81 after a Youngstown Sewer System Evaluation.

Senior Citizen Center to open in Hubbard in one month

The City of Hubbard plans a full time Senior Citizen Center at 29 North Main Street within about a month. Residents are urged to donate toward a $10 000 to $12 000 target to furnish the building. Mayor Arthur Magee notes strong local senior groups and a plaque will honor sponsors. The Hubbard Knights of Columbus presented a $100 donation to fund the center.

Pope urges faith based peace at Easter in St Peter’s Square

Pope John Paul II addressed 300000 in St Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday saying true peace rests on faith justice and ending the suffering of little children. He delivered the Urbi et Orbi message in 32 languages marking his first Easter Mass as pope and his sixth month reign.
