Parent Drug Education Series Begins May In Hubbard
Hubbard hosts a four session Parent Awareness Program on drug abuse starting May 2 at 7 30 p m in Reed Middle School cafeteria. James Traficant executive director of the Mahoning County Drug Program coordinates the program with meetings on the first four Wednesdays in May ending May 23. All are welcome at 7 30 p m in Reed. Traficant, with degrees from University of Pittsburgh and Youngstown State University, chairs the county Welfare Advisory Board and works with Tri State Forensic Lab and Help Hotline. The program urges parental awareness about drugs and their home and city impact and seeks financial support from donations to cover speakers postage and refreshments. Hubbard Township trustees will host Postmaster Joseph Bunn to tackle the ongoing house numbering issue. About 40 percent of residents have not placed new numbers since 1976, causing mail and safety concerns. If residents refuse to comply, mail delivery may be halted after a 10 day warning.

City to upgrade half century old traffic signals
A 476000 project to upgrade ten 50 year old traffic signals on West Liberty and North Main Streets will start with a preparatory study in June. Mosure and Syrakis Consulting Engineers will analyze synchronization and pedestrian needs for 15 000 vehicles daily, with federal funding covering most construction.

Hubbard High girls Linda Cooper and Connie Stere earned display honors in two contests. Cooper’s artwork, from Grace Avenue, was selected for display in the State Department of Education offices in Columbus where state officials including the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education members will view it.

Repairs on viaduct to start Monday
Repairs on the N Main St op will begin next Monday April 30 per Mayor Arthur Magee. No truck traffic will be allowed on Routes 62 and 7 during the two to three week project. Linda Woodl and Still Life will be shown in state offices until May 19 before moving to the Governor's Youth Art Exhibition location. Connie Stere’s analytic collage of her class ring with an eagle will appear in Free Spirit Magazine. editor Thomas Berstler praised the work and asked for publication in a future issue. Hubbard residents can visit the temporary City Building second floor office this Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. SCOPE representatives will be on hand to provide free blood pressure tests and answer questions. The monthly public service event runs 9 to 3.
