Ohio Academic Scholarship Awarded to Howland Student
Bijan Khavari of Howland High School received the 1983 Ohio Academic Scholarship from the Ohio Board of Regents. Recipients get 1000 dollars annually for up to four years at eligible colleges or nursing schools. The program, started six years ago, funds 1000 scholarships yearly with at least one winner from each high school.

Howland Students Win Merit Scholarships at Kent State
Two Howland High School seniors, William Weita and Kevin Wyndham, won merit scholarships to Kent State University. Weita received an $800 Distinguished Scholar Award and Wyndham earned an $800 Creative Arts Award, awarded annually by Kent State University’s Honors and Experimental College for academic merit and artistic talent. Both students gain access to Honors College programs.

Howland Township Trustees Advertise for Dump Trucks
Howland Township trustees on May 17 authorized bidding for two 2.5 ton dump trucks at about 26000 dollars each to replace older units. If trade-ins fail, old trucks will be auctioned. They will also bid for street resurfacing plans and specifications. The board donated 25 dollars to American Legion Post 700 for Memorial Day costs and another 25 to the Blue Star Mothers. Paramedic Michael Datish will attend a Columbus medical seminar June 9 to 11.
