Gas dealers back away from strike in Arkansas

In Little Rock, about 110 gasoline dealers of the Gasoline Retailers Association chose not to vote on a strike plan due to antitrust concerns. Temporary legal counsel Rep. David H. Pryor warned the group they cannot strike as a nonunion entity. Some dealers threatened to close stations if the Cost of Living Council does not act by Friday, while others would not honor government credit cards or serve government vehicles. An eyewitness described personal ruin from oil company pressure, urging collective action. Pryor urged individual decisions to avoid public harm. John M. Huemmrich denounced the Cost of Living Council head and suggested abolishing the council.

New Perry Mason on CBS Seeks True Revival Power

Hollywood reports that a revived Perry Mason series is filming on the 20th Century Fox lot with Monte Markham in the Mason role. The cast keeps the old character names but uses new actors and sets, aiming for a 1973 ecology aware, modern take despite comparisons to the original. Markham notes line memorization is essential and predicts a tough, no-break filming schedule as writers’ strike lingers.
