The National Weather Service says Gulf moisture will bring showers to most Arkansas areas through Saturday. A slow moving cold front has kept shower activity active this week, with cooler air following.
The Hope Star reports cooler temperatures with highs in the 70s and 80s through Saturday. Across the state, Wednesday highs reached 90 at El Dorado and ranged from 82 to 89 in several cities, with morning lows around 69 to 73. The forecast calls for considerable cloudiness and scattered showers through Friday, with highs in the mid 70s to upper 80s and lows in the 60s.

Dearie a cream and white border collie died after slipping into an abandoned tar pit in Waterloo Arkansas. Neighbors and children rescued the dog but the shock proved fatal. Survivors include two grandsons Peter and Teddie Lechner. Local hazards from old Berry Oil Company pits are blamed.
Gentry Arkansas residents voiced concern that Washington County officials overlook the James Sanders case. Sanders, 30, of Ralston Oklahoma, holds two prison sentences linked to the negligent homicide death of James Ballenger and his wife Carodean in the September 1972 wreck. He was later released to help his daughter find an Oklahoma apartment, then jailed for a July 29 DWI and a later revocation, and walked away from jail two hours before authorities were alerted. Mitchell, vice president of the Gentry Jaycees, urged voters to demand improvements in local supervision.
The Arkansas Correction Department accepted four mobile classroom units to train inmates in graphic arts. The units include copying and offset duplicating equipment. This marks the prisons first industrial project under a 1973 General Assembly authorization to run self supporting programs funded by goods and services produced.
Mrs Willie Octave Jones Brown 84 died Wednesday in a Prescott hospital. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Cornish Funeral Home chapel with burial in Piney Grove Cemetery. She was born in Nevada County and belonged to Piney Grove Assembly of God. Survived by husband John of Prescott, three sons Able Hemphill Tex Roy Prescott and Odis Mineral Springs, a daughter Gladys Gammage Little Rock, a brother Tom Lucas Prescott, 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.
John Dulin 27 of Muldrow Oklahoma, an employe of Don McCormick Painting Co. of Little Rock, was electrocuted Wednesday at a gypsum wall board plant near Nashville Arkansas owned by Weyerhauser Co. Dulin and William C. Haynes of Little Rock were on a 125 foot water tank when the accident occurred. Witnesses say Dulin was preparing to clean the tank and apparently touched an electrical wire.
The state Highway Commission on Wednesday released a six year plan outlining more than 500 million dollars in anticipated construction. It also forecasts about 120 million dollars of highway work under contract this fiscal year ending June 30, with over 190 jobs contracted and more than 600 miles affected. District 6 leads projected contracts at 29.385 million including over 18 million for Interstate 630 in Pulaski County, across 23 projects, followed by district breakdowns detailing job counts, mileage and costs for districts 1 through 10. The report coincides with the death of film star Anna Magnani at 65 from cancer.
Dr C Lynn Harris, a Hope family physician since 1964, will be made a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians at the Denver convocation on October 2. Eligibility requires good standing in the academy and over 600 hours of post graduate work. He serves as councillor for the Arkansas Medical Society and belongs to multiple medical groups. Mrs Harris will accompany him. wives’ events include Air Force Academy tour and a Peale lecture.
Springfield, Mo. AP report states two men died in a burning gasoline truck wreck after it ran off Interstate 44 west of the city and plunged into a dry creek bed. Driver Earl Cavener, 29, of Joplin and passenger Donald McLaughlin, 45, of Chicago per highway patrol.
