Crosses Mark Lost Migrants in Arizona Desert

Alvaro Enciso plants three to four crosses weekly across Arizona borderlands to honor migrants who died on the northbound trek. His “Where Dreams Die” memorials mark sites where remains are found, amid water jugs and backpacks. The project echoes centuries of Sanctuary Movement faith work aiding migrants through groups like the Tucson Samaritans and Catholic and Methodist aid efforts in southern Arizona.
