Scotch whisky sector cheers US tariff suspension
Scotch whisky makers welcomed a five year suspension of tariffs after the United States and the European Union resolved their aircraft subsidies dispute. The move follows months of export losses, with the Scotch Whisky Association citing a 30 percent drop in exports to the US and a gain for distillers as Brexit and new free trade talks unfold. Leaders from UK and US trade groups described the deal as a line under the long running row, enabling renewed focus on markets like Australia and India and cooperation against non market practices.
