In 1923 a Blendon farmer Len Parady discovered a dead newborn along a roadside east of Allendale Center. Sheriff Fortney investigated. a doctor believed the infant died at birth, weighing about six pounds, wrapped in cloth and paper in a wooden box. The body was likely placed by the road Friday night.

Holland Hospital Volunteer Council runs Lights of Love to aid patient comfort through donations. This year proceeds support Bowen Birth Center SCN, Behavioral Health, and Spiritual Care. Funds purchase two glider chairs, a massage chair, and a HD broadcaster for CARE channel to ease stress, aid skin to skin contact, and improve sleep for patients and families.
