Alan Segall of 938 Roanoke Aves achieved a hole in one on Thursday July 23 at Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains while playing the 17th hole a par 3 230 yards. His father Jack W. Segall witnessed the shot.
The 1964 season opens with grid tryouts at the P A L on Saturdays and Sundays August 1 2 and August 8 9. Times are 9 a m to 12 noon Saturdays and 1 p m to 4 p m Sundays. Open to boys ages 10 to 13, maximum weight 115 lbs. New applications accepted. ANNOUNCE BIRTH OF SON Neil Eric Ringel born July at Beth Israel Hospital Newark to Mr and Mrs Jack Ringel of Hillside formerly Barbara Brenner of Irvington. They also have son Jay Michael Ringel.
Mayor Morroe Ackerman announced new swim lessons for 7 to 15 year olds plus adults starting in August with sessions through early September. About 300 children are enrolled. 1133 families, 207 individuals, and 15 seniors hold memberships. New registrations open August 18 with no refunds after badges issued. penalties imposed for sharing badges.

Magistrate Henry Goldher sentenced Alphonse Smith to 30 days in Union County Jail on a burglary tools charge after patrolman Jack King found him loitering in front of 250 Williamson Ave. in Newark. A detainer had been filed by the Essex County Probation Officer.
George Zoerner, 58, recalls a June 27 to July 18 trip with his sister Betty Freygang from Ridgeway Ave to visit Gera in East Germany. He contrasts West prosperity with state ownership, police registrations, limited travel, strained rails, and a harsh daily life under Ulbricht. The account notes 100 marks weekly wages and a border ordeal returning to Frankfort. Continued on Page 6.
Funeral services were held Friday for William Buchanan 73 of John Glenn Drive Hillside who died Tuesday in Beth Israel Hospital. A tool and die maker for American Can in Newark 35 years he was a lifetime member of Clydesdale Lodge F and AM in Scotland. Surviving are his wife two sons daughters and many relatives including 13 grandchildren. Also noted is Andrew Pactaes 20 of Hillside fined 1 and court costs for failing to pay a 10 cent toll on the Garden State Parkway with the arrest recorded June 4 1964 and paid July 7 1964.
