Hillside Split Over Aldene Plan Bridges and Crossings

The Township Committee factions debate the Aldene Plan affecting Hillside with 72 daily Central Railroad trains and a proposed Long Ave grade crossing removal. A minority favors closing Long Ave with no new bridge, routing traffic via a proposed north of Ridgway Ave bridge as the best by avoiding a costly overpass. They urge by passing Hillside entirely if possible, otherwise minimize disruption and preserve safety with minimal detours.
