George Herlich, Former Mayor and Freeholder, Dies at 84
Funeral services were held for George W. Herlich at Haeberle and Barth Colonial Home in Union. The longtime Republican, former mayor, and director of the Board of Freeholders died suddenly Saturday at 151 Clark Street. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery. He served on the Township Committee starting in 1930, returned in 1935, and led as chairman or mayor in 1937 and 1940 to 1947. He later served on the Board of Freeholders from 1947 to 1959 and was its director in 1954. He retired as chief engineer of Crucible Steel Co. after 40 years and devoted full time to county duties. He was born in Plainfield and lived in Elizabeth, Newark, and Hillside. Survivors include two daughters and seven grandchildren.

Ladanye Named Chairman of Hillside Foreign Language Dept

Linda O Desky of 338 Winans Ave Newark New Jersey won a full tuition scholarship for 1964 65 from Institute Allende University of Guanajuato San Miguel Mexico. Among ten awards she was one of five graduates of the United States. A Weequahic High School Newark graduate she earned a BS at Newark State College in 1964 and plans a Master of Fine Arts at the Mexican University.

Two Elizabeth motorists injured in Westminster Avenue crash
