In a tense Friday night clash, Central allegedly used three gifts toward Thomasville. The Bulldogs capitalized on key plays, edging the Bison 16-14 after late drives and turnovers in a chaotic first half. Bison coach Roy Boyles cited fumbles and a bad snap as turning points.
Gerald Gilmore returned a 32-yard punt for a pivotal score and Bowers kicked the first field goal, 27 yards, as Central blocked Thomasville’s attack. Gilmore made a key stop on a two point attempt while coach Allen Brown praised his defense, comparing it to 1969. Andre Marks led the Bison with a first score on a 55-yard drive but Central stifled the run.
Ray Bryson saves a Bulldogs drive with a fumble recovery in the Bison end zone. Bison backups swarm the action as Jimmy Rolie makes the tackle on Jackie Hoover after the fumble.
High Point Andrews dominate on defense holding Page to 55 rushing and 79 passing yards while forcing five fumbles and two picks. Ritter nails three field goals and two extra points as Culler Wagoner and Harp spark a second half surge to a 23 0 victory.
In a Central Carolina Conference opener Ledford defeated Allen Jay 29 to 12 as Allen Jay erased a 15 point deficit with a comeback. Rowe praised coach Nell and Welch while Allen Jay adjusted formations and used a running back at quarterback. Panthers coach Bob Spain commended Allen Jay as well prepared and noted Ledford’s defense held first Ledford touchdowns this season to the Jays’ scores.
