Reynolds admits major questionable payments disclosed
RJ Reynolds Industries disclosed nearly 25 million dollars in possibly illegal foreign and domestic contributions over recent years. The sum includes more than 19 million in rebates via Sea-Land Service, about 5.36 million to foreign government officials or employees, and 190 thousand dollars in prohibited domestic political contributions. The firm filed findings with the SEC under its voluntary disclosure plan and withheld recipient names. Rep Steven Neal said he did not receive any of the 190 thousand dollars. Former Rep Wilmer Mizell noted Reynolds officials had contributed to his campaign and praised the company for transparency.
