Commission Sets Hearing On Fire Code For Monday
GREENSBORO The Guilford County Commission will hold a public hearing Monday on a proposed rural fire prevention code. If approved the code would extend the Greensboro and High Point standard to most of the county with exceptions for James town and Gibsonville. The code targets public assemblies and industrial sites and aims to improve life safety through housekeeping and electrical safety measures. If adopted the code would take effect July 1, making Guilford the second county in the state to implement a countywide fire prevention code after Mecklenburg. Fire Marshal Charles Porter cited 980 inspections in 1971 with 85 percent of recommendations voluntarily adopted by owners.
