Prisoner's wife gains hope from Paris peace visit
Mrs. Ann Schrump, wife of Army Maj. Raymond Schrump, visited Paris to meet a Viet Cong delegate and discuss her husband’s status. She believes a letter attributed to him confirms he is alive and hopes rise as he remains missing since May 1968. The trip yielded a possible promise of POW releases once U.S. troops withdraw.

Goldsboro Sends Barbecue Tools to Walter Reed
Goldsboro North Carolina fed 450 wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington as a morale booster. The city made honorary citizens of the troops and provided reading material and entertainment. The idea came from Dana Borden Lacy and Capt Corbin Cherry who wrote to the Goldsboro News Argus and inspired local support including ham biscuit donations and a printing of citizenship papers. The food was flown in by private planes and singers from The Men of Madison joined the effort on site.
