About 200 church representatives at the Consultation of Church Union opening in St Louis discuss a plan uniting nine denominations with 25 million members. The plan would ensure Black leadership, including the first presiding bishop, and aims to define a new era for American Protestant churches over two creative years of study and revision.
The Pathet Lao proposed a peace plan for Laos calling for US withdrawal, cease-fire, a demilitarized zone, and a provisional coalition government after a consultative conference. It envisions elections and compensation for displaced persons with ongoing diplomatic exchanges between Viengiane and Hanoi.
North Carolina Attorney General Robert Morgan said he will seek re election in 1972 and is not running for governor though not closing the door entirely. He noted other Democrats like Lt. Gov. Pat Taylor and Roy Sowers may be potential nominees while naming others mentioned as possible candidates.
