Reports on Donations Tie Hughes to Dunes Bid
The Senate Watergate committee staff says billionaire Howard Hughes gave two $50,000 campaign gifts to Nixon associates. It claims Attorney General Mitchell approved Hughes’ $35 million bid for the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas, and describes the administration’s actions as a classic case of decision making for friends with potential impropriety. The 47 page report, released to AP via a source, highlights questions about campaign contributions and Justice Department practices.
