Safecracking spree hits multiple homes in Thomasville area

A home burglary spree over six days left a Brantley Circle man reporting $366.40 in damages at an Old Thomasville Road vacant house. Other victims included three Windley Street homes with $1,100 in damages, stolen items from Greet Street and Southridge residents, and a $120 calculator from Smith and Warner on W High Street. Vending machines at Brentwood Service suffered $150 in damages. Several arrests followed on charges ranging from shoplifting to drug offenses and assault, with youths charged in separate incidents and a DWI case noted.

Four hurt as car crashes into house in Thomasville

A one car wreck Sunday left four persons injured in Thomasville. Driver Thomas Darrell Bullins of Lexington faced DUI charges after his 1972 vehicle ran off Hobbs Avenue onto Fife Street hitting a house, causing about 5000 dollars in damages.

Archdale City Hall To Close For Funeral of Carrs

Archdale City Hall will close at 12 30 p m Wednesday so city employees can attend the funeral of council member J L Carr Jr and his son Phil after a weekend plane crash. City Manager Dalton Fulcher says officials may reopen at 4 p m if back in time. Carr elected May 1971 to a four year term. council may appoint a replacement to fill 18 months remaining.

County valuation shows growth across Guilford County

County officials base this year on prior state utility figures with expected minor increases. Growth concentrated in rural areas, then High Point and Greensboro, with rural totals rising from 989 million to 1.0 billion, an 8.08 percent gain. City to pave way for new baseball field project

The director reported to commissioners that a board has been laid to enable a new baseball field. Swimmer turnout at city pools fell slightly from last year due to bad weather closing pools for two weekends. Concession receipts totalled 3089 dollars at Memorial Park and 345 dollars at Carver Park this summer. Ingram noted 252 people have taken swimming lessons at the two pools.

Death of William McKinnley Payne Sr. ruled from gunshot

Police found William McKinnley Payne Sr. in a bathroom at 1210 Trinity Ave after forcing the door. Medical Examiner Dr T Eugene Terrell ruled the death a personal safety related gunshot wound. Payne had been in declining health for years.
