Piedmont Natural Gas seeks rate rise in NC
Piedmont Natural Gas Co. asked the North Carolina Utilities Commission for a 4.23 percent rate increase or 2.6 million dollars annually due to declining earnings. The proposal would raise the minimum monthly residential charge from 2 to 2.50, increase small business rates about 6 percent and large commercial and industrial rates about 9 percent, with public housing customers excepted from the minimum rise. The request follows a 27 percent income drop for the year ending June 30, and earnings per share down 24.2 percent to 2.52 dollars. The company serves 14 North Carolina counties from Burlington to Charlotte and parts of South Carolina.
