Patman pushes interest cap and credit allocation in housing push
Washington. House Banking Committee Chairman Wright Patman, a liberal Democrat from Texas, urges a national ceiling on interest rates and mandatory lending into home mortgages. He says such controls could ease high prices for low and moderate income buyers, though he doubts quick congressional approval. He hopes a strong Democratic Congress in November will enact bolder reforms and curb the influence of big banks and the Fed.
