British invite Rhodesian black leaders for London talks
Foreign Minister David Owen invited Joshua Nkomo and Robert Mugabe to London for talks on Rhodesia’s political future. The plan centers on Smith's move to an internal settlement with moderate blacks, with Nkomo and Mugabe weighing whether to attend in London after meeting in Maputo. The move follows recent clashes in Mozambique and Zambia and U.S. British coordination on Rhodesia policy.
