Police Mixup Ends In Crime
Fort Lauderdale authorities say Morgan E. Mackey, 22, jailed on a child molesting charge, slipped from custody and may have committed up to eight felonies while police believed he remained in a hospital cell. The mixup traced to transfers and miscommunication at a Fort Lauderdale center. Sheriff Edward Stack called it human error, while officials described a cascade of misidentifications and missing background information. Mackey was later found to be involved in a series of car thefts and thefts from a gun shop as investigations continued.
