Flaherty Attacks Carter Pardon Stand In NC Race
Republican hopeful David Flaherty plans a bold campaign to link Jim Hunt to Jimmy Carter's Vietnam draft pardon stance. In a runoff with Coy Privette, Flaherty aims to ignore his rival and push Carter allies, arguing pardons would inflame North Carolina views. Hunt accepts Carter’s position but says he would prefer a work-for-pardons plan and will stay aligned with Carter as part of the ticket.

GOP nominations shift as Hatch Act violations surface
The GOP increased their count last week as Tenney replaces George Little as secretary of natural and economic resources while Mrs. Tyler takes Phillip J Kirk’s place as secretary of human resources after both candidates bowed out citing Hatch Act violations over supervised federal spending. In Winston Salem Howard Lee and Jimmy Green debated the value of prior legislative experience for lieutenant governor as four TV interviews aired ahead of a Sept 14 runoff. Green emphasizes experience while Lee values vision and dismisses experience as the greatest virtue. Ralph Scott endorsed Lee in a telephone interview from Haw River. Scott is a veteran legislator and kin to two former governors.
