Possible illegal political bargain involving Jordan endorsement
Raleigh AP Dist Atty Burley Mitchell Jr says he will not open an investigation into a purported violation of state law by State Rep John M Jordan who sought pledges of endorsement from Lt Governor candidates James Green and Howard Lee. Jordan says Green publicly promised support. Lee did not. Mitchell would forward any complaint to the state Elections Board and SBI if filed. Jordan, a former General Assembly member from Saxapahaw, may seek higher office in 1978 potentially the US Senate seat held by Jesse Helms.
