Mills River residents fear nursing home near highway
Mills River neighbors Jack Carver and Jerry Metcalf oppose Henderson-Beystone Healthcare Properties plan to relocate a 34,000-square-foot 50-bed nursing home to a 9.4-acre site on N.C. 191 near High Vista. They warn two stormwater ponds may not prevent flooding and question a zoning variance and DOT driveway and drainage specs. The Town Board delayed a permit decision amid concerns over runoff, traffic, noise, and water effects on their two-acre hillside property.
