Laurel Park recalls Rhododendron Lake history and growth
Mayor Carey O'Cain recalls Rhododendron Lake in Laurel Park once ten acres, now one acre, built in 1909 by Walter A. Smith. The lake featured a 30 foot dam and canal to Rainbow Lake, with access via the Dummy Line street car from Hendersonville. He recalls learning to swim and teaching lifesaving there.
