5 000 Deductible In Declaring Monies
A new law passed by the last Town legislature changes the setup for declaring moneys and credits on hand Jan 1 for tax purposes. State Senator R R Bateson notes that prior to repeal by the 58rd general assembly the code allowed only the gross debt amount to be deducted when reporting moneys and credits. The new statute lets taxpayers deduct, in addition to debts, a sum of 5 000 before listing moneys and credits for assessment.
