Bud Svendsen led singing and Linda Long of Whitten performed two tap dances with her mother at the piano. Refreshments were provided by Ed Hollingsworth's committee. Others visited in area homes and guests included Bob and Nellie Ramshaw from Nokomis, Saskatchewan, Canada, and the Bachman home in Hubbard celebrated their 50th anniversary with over 90 guests signing the guest book. The rural women held a Christmas party at Mrs Will Dobbrunz's home with roll call of What.
First Methodist Church led by Pastor W. R. Ehlert announces Sunday school at 10 and morning worship at 11 with the sermon Bridges Not Burned. The Young Adult class meets Monday at the Vigars home and the Wesleyan Service Guild meets Monday at Miss Mayme Frazer's home.
Holy Communion will mark the New Year service. The Adult Bible class will resume January 8 with a new unit titled What I Believe from Studies in the New Testament. Family night on the 9th at 6 30 features Sapper leading with R B Ferguson in charge.
St Paul Lutheran Church announces Sylvester Eve services at 7:30 p.m. New Year's Day schedule includes Sunday school and Bible classes at 10 and Divine services at 11. Weekly events feature Monday choir rehearsal, Tuesday adult membership class, and Thursday Ladies' Aid at 1:30. Hostesses listed as Mrs Carl Dobbrunz, Mrs Wm Dobbrunz, Mrs Vern Dobbrunz, Mrs Fred Dobbrunz, Mrs Bertha Neubaurer, and Mrs Anna Roll.
Parish bulletin lists Father L V McDonough as pastor and calendars Sunday Masses at 9 and 10. Weekday Masses at 7 30 a m with Holy Hour Saturday evening 4 o clock or 7 30 o clock unclear. Also mentions tea and later schedule details.
The New Grand theatre will present holiday matinees at 2 p m and two full night shows at 7 30 and 9 30 p m on Sunday and Monday January 1 and 2. The New Year's feature is Apartment For Peggy in technicolor starring Jeanne Crain William Holden and Edmund Gwenn.
A Christmas gift exchange and mystery sisters were noted. Abbie Fagan assisted in the New Providence post office as a clerk for the past two weeks. Several families shared Christmas dinners including Rev and Mrs John Deedyick, Mr and Mrs J C Clingerman, and Mr and Mrs Ray Marless at Edith Crosley home. E R Kagan and Franklin Hutchens at Thomas Hale home in Ames. Franklin planned to stay in Ames for the week. L Babcock of Waverly visited Floyd Beasley’s from Saturday to Monday. Evan Reece, recently released from Eldora hospital, returned home before Christmas. Sunday guests in Reece home included Warren Mossman, Carol Ann, Neil and David, and Marlin Mossman family from Radcliffe. Christmas day guests at Floyd Beasley home included L E Babcock, Leo Hutchens from Waverly, and Susie Brady from Eldora. supper guests were Adrian Bachman and family from Hubbard.
Mrs Maude Knowles hosts chapel with extended family notes. Dell Trout returns from Waterloo where she aided sister Rose Rankin in illness care. Arthur and brothers attend cousin Mrs Mossman’s funeral in Marshalltown Friday. Birthday dinner planned for Sunday Jan 1 with Rev John Deedrick preaching. Mrs C A Svendsen back from Marshalltown to hometown.
Mrs. Everett Clingerman Mrs. Lowell McCormick and Maude Knowles will entertain Chapel cemetery society at the basement January 12. Larry Trout and Steven Dages are on the sick list.
