Shives Golden 50th Anniversary Open House in Providence
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rash hosted an open house for Edwin and Effie Shives celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Attendees included Woodrow Shives and Carl Clemons with spouses, plus relatives from Yacol Washington and near Runnells. The Shives family, grandkids, and many friends received gifts, flowers, a new rug, and a chorus of well wishes from Providence School District and faculty.

Christmas Events Planned by Local Groups
Christmas season events include a cantata The Christ Child on Sunday Dec 18 at 8 pm at New Providence church by the New Providence Honey Creek choir directed by Mrs. Neil Martin. A children's program is set for Sunday morning Dec 25 at Honey Creek. A Christmas program at New Providence church is planned for Thursday Dec 22 at 7 30 pm. High school vesper service is Sunday Dec 18 at 2 pm in the gym under Miss Altman. Grade school operetta is Wednesday Dec 21 at 8 pm in the gym. The Child Study Club meets Friday Dec 1 at Quakerdale for luncheon. Warren Reese drove his mother Mrs L K Reese of Eldora to Newton Sunday to visit sister Mrs Gail Rash and meet her new great granddaughter born to Ann Rash Cummings.

Do You Recognize This Farmstead of Mr and Mrs Malo Reece were Mr and Mrs Glen Shorty Hogan, Bonnie and Mike and Mr and Mrs Dixie Jordan and two daughters all from Des Moines. Shower for Bride Mrs Clyde Smitherman the former Mary Maas a recent bride was honored by the Chester community with a miscellaneous shower at the Chester church. Entertainment included kitchen band numbers and games followed by gifts and refreshments for about 25 guests. Supt and Mrs George Lorber hosted dinner guests including Oscar Lenius Lucile Lenius Charles Lenius Leonard Lorber and family from Oran Martha Loeb of Waterloo and Ed Sharp of Des Moines. Mrs Paul Waller hosted the Chester Woman's Missionary society with mystery friend reveal and charity gifts sent to Coun cil Bluffs Children home and Wyandotte Okla Indian mission. Cookies and coffee were served. Mr and Mrs Leonard Church and daughter of Waterloo were weekend guests in the home of Mr Church's parents for Mrs Rains birthday. Mr and Mrs L Kasischke returned from a two week trip visiting Arnolds Freitag in Lafayette Ind and Rev H Oldson in Ottawa Ill and Rev John Schliep in Iowa City. Mr and Mrs Kermit Whitehead visited their daughter Joanne at Iowa State Teachers College then Whitehead left for Philadelphia and Palestine. Panel Discusses Business and Co-ops at farmer school
A Monday farmer night school panel on Business and Co-ops drew about forty attendees in the schoolhouse music room. Panelists included W. K. Bramwell, Luther Williams, William Dreier, and Clarence Reece, with E. H. Lundy substituting. The December 19 meeting will close the Co-ops series and feature Don Edison, Iowa Grain Dealer's Association secretary, on Reorganization of Co ops Under Present Laws, preceded by a Farm Bureau oyster supper at 6:30.

A surprise dinner at Ted Broers home honored Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Broer for their 59th wedding anniversary.
