Keep Confidences Advice to Parents Keep Confidences
Mrs Alma Jones a child development specialist at Iowa State College says wise parents keep confidences to preserve trust and understanding with their children. She warns that telling tales harms the home atmosphere and undercuts parental guidance while many youngsters resent mothers sharing private problems with friends.

Good soybean seed plentiful in Iowa for next spring
Iowa State College agronomist C R Weber says high quality soybean seed is on hand for planting next spring. Harvesting finished early this year, with moisture content favorable for easy, safe storage and good germination next season. State yields averaged about 22 to 23 bushels per acre, above some drought expectations.

New Varieties Help Boost Soybean Yield and Harvest Ease
Weber cites factors boosting yield and easy combining in soybeans. Weed absence and wide farmer acceptance of high yielding varieties, especially Lincoln and Hawkeye, underpinned strong 1940s yields. Hawkeye acreage expected to rise, replacing Richland and much of Lincoln in northern areas as late-year prospects grow. Hawkeye released in 1948 for seed increase.

Soybeans favored as corn yields lag behind this year
The yield of beans this year was relatively higher than corn. Corn faced borers, a major October wind storm, drought, and an average November Crop and Livestock Report value of 49 bushels. Farmers see a soybeans advantage with some planning to grow more next year. Weber notes a shift toward soybeans if corn acreage declines, but advises not to abandon corn entirely and to expand sod crops for soil health.
