The Music Mothers of Greene Community School plan their first meeting of the year on Monday September 9 at 2:00 PM in the basement of the Presbyterian church The gathering invites mothers of all students in organized music groups to attend and preview the new music year.

Voters in Greene Butler and Floyd Counties Iowa are urged to cast ballots today from noon to 7 pm on forming a Greene Community School District. Precincts cover Floyd and Butler locations including farm homes, schoolhouses, and Greene City Hall. The measure would consolidate rural schools Packard and Coldwater districts into a single district serving about 115 sections with over seven million dollars assessed value.
The Greene Sportsman's Club hosts a Friday evening fish fry at the local high school auditorium. Serving starts 6 30 pm with walleyes fries and side dishes plus ice cream and beverages. A Young Farmer meeting was held on Wednesday August 28 with fifteen attendees. The first class session is set for September 17 at 7 30. A five member council was elected Edward Meyer Fred Junker Lloyd Stauffer Bob Smith and Bruce Menken. Call Richard Wagoner or any council member to join the class.
The Greene Woman's Bowling Association elected officers for the coming season. President is Mrs. Marilyn Kruil of Marble Rock, vice president Mrs. Paul Cheney, secretary Mrs. Elmer Stock, treasurer Mrs. Galen Martzahn, and sergeant at arms Mrs. George Sneed.
John Deere sponsors a state field demonstration on September 10, 1957 at Beck Brothers Farm ten miles south of Waterloo Iowa. The all day event showcases nearly every John Deere machine in the Middle West with 250 acres and about 50 000 expected attendees. Demonstrations include combine corn harvest and drying with a new shelter for corn pickers hay handling by one man and six row equipment shown for the first time.
The Big Ten Bowling League opened the 1957-1958 season on Monday evening with five matches. Albrecht Hatchery defeated Bailey Insurance 4-0, Hamilton Furniture beat Klassi Motors 3-1, Roy's Repair won over Gamble Store 4-0, Al's Lanes topped Stock Hardware 3-1, and Wunsch Plumbing beat Curtis Insurance 4-0. High singles were Jack Whitehead 231 and Donovan Ruffridge 212. high series were Al Rognes Jr 542 and Donovan Ruffridge 536.
The semifinal round at Round Grove Golf and Country Club featured George Sneed defeating Keith Drake and Robert Curtis defeating Clyde Stuntz. Sneed and Curtis advance to fight for the championship prize while Donald Bachman beats Norman Wolters in the Consolation bracket. The Pooley-Sexter match remains to determine the consolation winner, with Bachman set to face that winner.
The P T A will meet this evening Wednesday September 4 at 8 09 o clock in the high school gymnasium. It will be a reception for the teachers. All parents and teachers are urged to attend this meeting. Refreshments will be served following the meeting.

About 500 attended the inaugural Butler Plowing Contest at the Kalainoff farm near Hansell on September 14. Lowell Norman won the level plowing contest with an Ailis-Chalmer tractor and three bottom plow, while Adam Schwab took the contour title with a Minneapolis-Moline LP gas tractor and three bottom pull.
Ivan Wikner, County Extension Director, warns farmers to return soil sampling cards to the Extension Office. Kenneth Hart of Jefferson Township will begin sampling on September 3, aiming to finish during September. Lime tests go to Iowa State College Laboratory with results in two weeks, fertilizer tests in six weeks.

Mr and Mrs Tom V Silver of Waterloo announce the birth of a son Thomas Vincent on August 8 weighing 7 pounds 13 ounces. Mrs Sil is the former Shirley Reynolds of Greene, granddaughter of Maude Reynolds and Florence Woodling.
The Greene Community School teachers convened an organizational meeting at the school on Saturday. Robert Tornowske was elected president and G E Stephenson secretary-treasurer. County Council reps were chosen. Donald Bachman is the holdover delegate. Ina Nichol is the high school alternate and Florence Schmitt represents elementary grades as delegate with George Koons as alternate.
Members of the Butler County Historical Society board will gather at City Hall in Allison on Thursday evening September 5 at 7 30 for a regular meeting.

Mrs Hoy Taylor and his brother Carl moved to Clark Rest Home in Greene after Mr Taylor spent six months at university hospitals and underwent two major surgeries as a patient there.
