A fragment notes streets torn up will be forgotten after projects finish with wider roads and lower curbs. It urges voters to support the reorganization issue for better education facilities at lower costs.
Work started on widening the business district street with curb and gutter on sections of other streets. The Allied Construction Company of Charles City won a contract for concrete curb and gutter, removal, walk work, and paving totaling extensive work on Traer Street abutting railroad property, with completion set for September 1.
In Mercy Hospital Mason City patient Wilbur Tindall receives treatment details indicate his hospitalization and ongoing care at the facility.
Brattleboro Vermont The Holstein-Friesian Association of America announced the completion of an official production record by a registered Holstein cow owned by Ellis and Smith. Milking twice daily for 357 days the 2 year old Clara Burke Fobes Lass 3866340 yielded 16070 pounds of milk and 597 pounds of butterfat.
Four Greene High School graduates Roger Juhl Garnetta Ann Nielsen Dorene Teeple and Craig Wilhelm were accepted for enrollment at Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls for the fall semester. They will be the first students under the new semester plan starting this summer. The college began in 1876 and has operated on a quarter system since then.
The government price support for 1957 corn in Butler County will be 1.30 dollars per bushel. County rates across Iowa range from 1.27 to 1.35 per bushel, based on a national average of 1.36 and 77 percent of parity. Loans and purchase agreements apply from harvest until May 31, maturing July 31. Applications are filed with the local county ASC office.
Iowa Conservation Commission announces 1957 1958 hunting and trapping seasons with minor changes from 1956 57. Pheasants open November 9 to December 2 in eight counties with noon to 430 pm hunting hours and bag limit three cock birds. Squirrel season September 14 to November 15 statewide, bag six daily, twelve after day one. Cotton tail and jackrabbit September 14 to January 31 1958, 6 am to 6 pm, ten daily, no possession limit. Raccoon hunting open statewide October 26 to February 10 1958 with no daily bag or possession limits. Trapping seasons begin December 1 1957 nationwide for mink muskrat with varied regional dates. beaver open December 1 1957 to March 1 1958. other furbearers open November 10 1957 to January 16 1958. Water sets permitted only during open mink muskrat season. Continuous open season for several species. Waterfowl season pending federal decision. Fish and Wildlife Service recommendations awaited.
Miss Nancy Kretzschmar daughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Kretzschmar earned a graduate nurse diploma at Logan Junior High School Waterloo on August 16 The ceremony included 28 classmates from Allen Memorial Hospital Lutheran School of Nursing
Mr and Mrs Will Cheney returned Thursday from a two week vacation trip sightseeing and visiting relatives in Canada Vermont New Hampshire Maine New York Pennsylvania and Ohio They visited Fort Ticonderoga and called on former Greene residents in Manns Choice Pennsylvania and others during the journey
A benefit baseball game postponed from last night to next Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. at the fairgrounds diamond will raise funds for Marvin Nolte of Dumont who was seriously injured during a Butler County Fair game. Parkersburg's Butler County League champions will face an all-star county team from Allison Dumont Greene Shell Rock and Clarksville. Nolte helped Dumont tie for second behind Shell Rock in the league standings and was struck in the head by a pitched ball during the fair finals on August 4. He is hospitalized in Hampton and will remain home for some time. The all-star lineup includes players from the five towns.
Charles Litterer son of Mr and Mrs Louis Litterer showed a purebred Jersey cow in the Future Farmers of America Dairy Heifer Department at the Iowa State Fair on Friday Aug. 23. The cow earned 4th place. Louis Litterer Richard Wagoner Dean Brinkman and Roger Martzahn also attended to view judging and exhibits. Charles was selected to usher on the grandstand, with ushers chosen from active F F A members across the state.
Voters in the Proposed Community School District of Greene Butler and Floyd Counties Iowa will vote Wednesday September 4 1957 from noon to 7 PM Polling places include Precincts 1 through 7 at various farm homes halls and schoolhouses in Floyd Butler and Greene counties. County Supervisor K R Rowley urges all eligible voters to participate in this important election.

Jane Allison, a grade teacher at Franklin Elementary School in Hampton, attended the first run of the University of Colorado summer session. The program serves 6,500 people and features courses, workshops, lectures, plays, concerts and exhibits across two 20 week terms. The recreation department offers mountain climbs and bus trips alongside academic life plus a Writers Conference in late July and early August.
A pot luck dinner will be held at Round Grove Golf and Country Club on September 2 at noon. In the afternoon a mixed golf polf tournament is offered for those who wish to play. Mr and Mrs Alvin Koeneman depart this morning for West Covina California a Los Angeles suburb where they plan to reside at 311 South Citrus. Conrad Koosman of Christ Lutheran Church says Mrs Koeneman will teach at the Christ Lutheran parochial school.
Powersville claimed the top prize in a 12 team invitational, defeating Colwell 8 to 4, Greene 8 to 7, Nashua 2 to 0, and Waverly 6 to 3. Highlights included Green and Fisher rallies in the Waverly game and Pyatt’s decisive center-field homer for Powersville.
Jimmy Viers a 242 year old son of Airman First Class and Mrs. Jim Viers of Anchorage Alaska was hospitalized at El mandorf Air Force Base Hospital after drinking turpentine at a neighbor’s home. Some entered his lungs causing an infection. He was placed in an oxygen tent and fed intravenously. He is the grandson of Mr and Mrs Gene Viers.
Dr William Andrews was discharged from Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City and returned home Tuesday morning. He will be convalescent at home for some time.
More than 150 clergymen and physicians from seven states gather in Waverly August 28 and 29 for the Hel ion and Medicine conference titled The Healing Team. Keynote speaker Russell Dicks of Duke University will open the event, joined by Wartburg Theological Seminary faculty and State University of Iowa staff. About 250 clergy, physicians, and nurses are expected to attend.
A club dance will be held this evening at Round Grove Golf and Country Club on August 28. The event is organized by Mr and Mrs Dale Walley and Mr and Mrs Dell Curtis. An orchestra will provide the music.

The Mens City Bowling Association held a meeting at Al's Lopes on Thursday evening to elect officers for the 1857 58 season. Roy Henline was elected president Carl Heyvenga 1st vice president Walter Wunsch 2nd vice president Elmer Stock secretary Dale Willey treasurer.
