Iowa judge validates interim 1965 reapportionment plan
Polk County Judge Harry Perkins ruled the interim reapportionment plan passed by the 1965 Iowa legislature is valid under both state and federal constitutions. The plan sets 124 House members and 61 Senate members, with Polk County to have 11 representatives and five senators elected at large. The petition challenging constitutionality was dismissed, and the court emphasized orderly reapportionment progress is only stayed for compelling reasons.
