A union Thanksgiving Service will be held at the Church of the Brethren on Thursday morning November 25 at 9 00 o clock. Member churches include Methodist Presbyterian and Church of the Brethren. Rex Kenneth Byerly will lead the worship. Rev. G F Butler will deliver the sermon. Service ends at 9 50 a.m. Everyone in the community is invited.
Roger Rev Stock, 11, son of Mr and Mrs Ivan Stock of Kewanee Illinois, underwent surgery at University Hospital in Chicago on Friday November 5. He will return home this week to recuperate for three weeks. His grandmother Mrs Minnie Stock is visiting their home.
Neighbors aided harvest at the Walter Weiland farm southwest of Greene on Tuesday November 5th. Helpers included Frank Grace Galen Miller Duane Miller Paul Jepsen Dennis Weiland Glen Skillen Paul Butler Leonard Burkier Fred Van Dyke and David Shook. Trucks from Vern Wilkins Bristow Elevator and Duane Miller. Ayers Owl Company of Aredale supplied fuel. Noon meal prepared at Mrs Fred Van Dyke home with assistance from Mrs Duane Miller and Mrs Dorothy Welland plus others providing food.
The Greene Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsors a flag sale starting Thursday. Members will go door to door and cover the rural Greene area to raise funds for a new shelter house at Perth Park. Proceeds support construction. contact any Jaycee member to buy a flag.
Rev Chester Ham, Butler County CROP Drive chair, announced CROP Sunday is moved to Sunday November 28 with the following week set for the county CROP appeal. The drive supports humanitarian aid with corn as the main crop, but grain, livestock, or cash gifts are welcome.
The Rambler basketball team meets Riceville Wildcats Friday November 19 in the opener. Coach Jerry Eimers lists 31 candidates with only one sure starter Jerry Fischer and Daryl Barnett sidelined by football injury. Senior leaders include McRoberts Kanter and Drake, with Hagarty Barth Ruffridge competing for spots as Baker reflects on bench depth and experience. Ralph Potter will coach freshmen and sophomores in a ten game schedule.
The American Legion Auxiliary asks for Butternut Coffee can strips labels from jars and coupons to prepare Christmas gifts for orphans and children of disabled veterans. Drop strips labels and coupons in containers at Drake's B and W and Morey's by Saturday December 11.

The Greene Community High School senior class has obtained permission to sell subscriptions to finance a planned skip day. Students carry numbered receipt books and issue temporary receipts. permanent receipts with accurate expiration dates follow after file verification at the drive's close.

Gary Ross escaped injury in a one car accident near Greene on Saturday evening about 6 30. He was traveling north and apparently ran the stop sign at a dead end road. The 1960 Chevrolet was demolished after the car struck a cement bridge and rolled into a west ditch.
Washington reports Rep H R Gross of Waterloo achieved 100 percent attendance in the first session of the 89th Congress amid a record 383 roll call votes and quorum calls. It marks his seventh straight perfect attendance year, with his last miss on June 2, 1958, and a 17 year overall attendance rate of 99 percent.
Duane B Larson 55 died Friday November 5 in Waterloo born April 8 1910 at Otranto to Peter and Eleanora Gunderson Larson. Survived by wife one daughter two sons his mother Mrs H L MecCulla of Greene and sister Mrs Raymond Feldt of Frednick Wisconsin. Funeral services were Monday November 8 at First Lutheran Church Waterloo.
Greene area businesses give away 108 fresh dressed turkeys over four Saturdays starting November 20. Twenty seven turkeys per drawing, with 8 30 pm start and ticket boxes at Mel's TV by 8 15 pm. Butler County Auditor announces all Town dogs over three months must be vaccinated against rabies under House File 566. Owners must present vaccination evidence to obtain a dog license, with penalties for unvaccinated dogs after June 1, 1966.
Rites are held for Mrs Clarissa Peck 74 at St Pers Lutheran Church in Green this afternoon. She died Sunday after months of illness and leaves daughters Helen Peck of Tempe Arizona and Mary Chase of Dubuque Iowa, four grandchildren and two brothers Roscoe Chandler Edgeway and Lloyd Chandler Illinois. Expenditures from public assistance funds totaled 30,325 in Butler County with October totals at 5,37,311 for the month in Iowa. The drop from prior month reflects delays in Medical Aid to the Aged claims and unavailable state funds for two billings. Payments include 2,518,330 to Old Age Assistance and 1,907,352 to Aid to Dependent Children, plus smaller totals for Aid to Blind, Aid to Disabled, and other programs.
Aid warrants were received for Butler County schools as state funds cover general education needs for 11 districts. Albert Duteo of Greene charged with a driving offense near a fire station paid 500 dollars fine and 406 dollars costs. Steve D Patchull of Nashua charged with speeding and failing to stop on a highway paid 1000 dollars fee and 4 dollars costs. He also paid 10 dollars fine and 34 dollars costs.
Iowa trappers were reminded that mink and muskrat seasons begin at noon on November 20 and end at midnight on December 12 with statewide openings except in State Game Management Areas and Federal Wildlife Refuges where rules differ. Trapping there requires permits and quotas. beaver season opens December 18. Prices for mink and muskrat pelts are expected to be similar to last year, with some long haired pelts, especially fox, up.

Luther College Choir has been invited to perform on the final evening of the American Choral Directors Association convention in Kansas City Missouri March 17. The choir is the sole college group chosen for concert status among university choirs nationwide and is linked with the MENC through national president Paul Van Bodegraven. Two choirs will be heard in concert. others will serve mainly in clinics. Bill Thompson and Donald Desnes are among the choir members.

Fifteen English teachers from Suiler and Franklin Counties met at Olson High School on November St to evaluate the past summer enrichment English pro gram. Guy Olson, County Guidance Coordinator, opened the session with a brief history. Miss Moehl of Wartburg College spoke on her phase of the teaching program. The group favored continuing the program in summer 1966 and urged highly motivated sophomores juniors and seniors planning on college to attend. They also recommended continued use of college instructors and that grades not be issued per session, with credit shown on transcripts. Supt V J Tatum and Mrs James Graven were present.
