The editor notes readers face a choice between basketball and wrestling after football season. Both boys and girls teams show promise and deserve support despite overlapping dates. Congratulations to the Junior Chamber for fostering Greene and its people, valuing hometown boosters who improve the town.
Ada Hummel 72 of Allison died at Clark Nursing Home Greene at 6:00 p.m. Thursday after a year as a patient. Born near Allison December 8 1893 to Folker and Dorothy Folkers, she married Frank Hummel and farmed near Allison before retirement. Survived by two adopted sons Raymond Charles City and LeRoy California, one brother Alfred Allison and four half brothers Erwin Wesley Allison Virgil Waverly Galen Folkers New Hampton. Funeral services were held in Allison Monday.

In Floyd County Veteran's Memorial Hospital Mrs. Minnie Vander Kolk is a patient for observation and treatment. Roy Taylor was admitted on Saturday night for treatment of a heart condition.
Virgil E. Shepard of Allison is named Butler county chairman for the testimonial dinner honoring U. S. Senator Jack Miller of Sioux City at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines on December 10. Main speaker will be George Murphy, U. S. Senator from California.
The Ramblerette basketball team begins the 1965 66 season with only two starters back from a 16 4 Corn Bowl Conference winning team. Coach Ken Sutton features two senior forward replacements Ann Rottler and Peggy Willey with Marilyn Johnson splitting forward guard duties. Flora Stubbe leads the guard court with Linda Stuntz as captain at one guard and Margaret Senne at the other. Returning letterwinners include Willey Ratt Jer and Bonnie Siemens plus Terrie Rutz in forwards and Stubbe Stuntz Senne in guards. Sophomores Marilyn Johnson Cheryl Neymeyer Katie Astor forwards and Ann Allison Lynette Kingery Karen Barnhart Diane Stauffer guards. Freshmen Marvy Rottler Jane McRoberts Donna Weichers Rosemary Bamker forwards and Myma Landers Jolene Litterer Ann Hansen Valerie Rutz Pam Leavengs Becky Bellows guards.
Jennie Du Bois returned home Saturday from St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital where she was a patient for five weeks. Mrs. Gene Reser is recuperating at her parents' home after major surgery at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital on October 27.
Rev John D Deines was installed as senior pastor at Zion Lutheran Church Davenport on Sunday October 31 His father Rev I J Deines assisted as pastor and liturgist The new pastor succeeds Rev Erich Biedermann who retired due to ill health Deines a Greene High School Wartburg College and Wartburg Seminary graduate previously led Salem Lutheran Correctionville He and his wife Martha Andrews of Greene and their six children reside at 1564 Northlawn Davenport.
Mrs Gene Reser underwent surgery last week at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City where she is a patient. She was reported to be recovering in the days following the operation.
High School announces first quarter honor roll with a large roster of seniors juniors sophomores and freshmen. Will Shook 87 died November 3 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Mason City after five months as patient. Born December 14 1877 in Nora Springs son of Andrew and Abbie Shook. Survived by wife Olena two daughters Corle Childs Red Bluff CA and Merle Schriver Mason City two sisters Mae Pettit and Vera Hamilton Greene and brother Paul Shook Plainfield. Preceded in death by parents two sons and a daughter. Funeral at Patterson James Mason City 10 am Friday November 5 Elmwood Cemetery.

Greene businesses will stay open on Thursday November 11 according to an announcement from the Commercial Club offices.
Walter Edwin Weiland 45 died from injuries in a farm accident southwest of Greene last Wednesday evening. He was born April 4, 1920 in Bristow, son of Ralph and Grace Weiland. Survived by wife Maxine, son Dennis 20, daughter Diara 17, his mother Grace of Bristow, and brothers John and Paul of Bristow. Funeral Saturday at 2:00 PM at First Methodist Church Greene with Rev. Wayne Gjerde officiating. Burial Rose Hill Cemetery Greene. Reid's Funeral Chapel in charge.
Cheryl Brmrkgren of Greene High School wins first chair clarinet in the 1965 All State Band after October 30 camp tryouts in Fort Dodge. She is one of fourteen clarinetists from fifty auditioning. The All State Festival Concert will be at KRNT Theater in Des Moines on Saturday night November 7 with broadcast on KRNT radio. Conductors are Leo Kucinski Southern Illinois University John Kendall and Harold Decker. Tickets priced two dollars each via KRNT Radio Theatre Des Moines.
Airman Electronic Mate 3rd Class L. Dennis Juhl, son of Mr and Mrs Lowe Tul, stationed at the 1S Naval Air Station Kingsville Texas, named Sailor of the Month for professional military and knowledge in his duties. A 1960 Greene Community High School graduate, he enlisted January 1961, trained in San Diego and Jacksonville.
Postmaster Robert Curtis announced the local Post Office will be closed on Thursday November 11 in observance of Armistice Day. Mail will not be delivered or collected that day, but distribution and dispatch will proceed as usual for other days.
The Senior Class stages Charley’s Aunt a comedy at the high school auditorium on Monday and Tuesday evenings November 15 and 16. Performances start at 8 15 each night with Oxford University England as the setting. Butler County readies its 1965 Christmas Seal drive under the Butler County Tuberculosis and Health Association with seals mailed to all homes before November 16. Funds support TB and respiratory disease fight, including school tuberculin testing in Butler County, with local chairs and officers listed.

Ackley Geneva Raiders turned a pass interception and a middle run into two touchdowns to beat the Ramblers 12 to 6 in the final game of the season. Key plays featured Ploeger and Holmgaard leading the Raiders on offense while Greene and Fischer anchored the Ramblers defense in a hard fought finish.
