Tax increase advances amid property tax relief plan
The 60th General Assembly nears two thirds with a Ways and Means panel advancing an omnibus tax bill to raise about 65 million dollars yearly. It folds a property tax relief fund into revenue measures including higher sales and income taxes, with projections of 12 mills for local tax relief and state aid shifts to schools. The plan, opposed by Democrats as atrocious, would also affect corporate taxes and agricultural land credits.

New Silage Corn Outstanding in Iowa Fields
New Pride variety H. S. 50 silage corn, Honey Sweet, has spread by word of mouth in Iowa. It is tall, fast growing, high yielding, and very sweet stalked but not intended for grain. Reported to yield about one third more tons per acre than ordinary corn, with five acres meeting silage needs once from seven or eight acres. Milk production and butterfat may rise when fed, though seed suppliers claim it equals other silage varieties. Pride Company, Inc. based in Glen Haven Wisconsin markets H. S. 50, with available seed in most grades. Local Pride dealers include John Weiland Bristow Carl Johnson Allison Homer Detra Clarksville Chas. Merrick Earl Parcher Marble Rock.
