A man identified as Junker underwent a back operation at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo last Saturday morning. His wife Mrs Dean Debner of Bristow, his daughter, and son Fred are with him at the hospital.
Dayton Mather, Greene and Butler County Red Cross chairman, announces Greene quota of 475 and Dayton and Cold Water Townships quotas of 150 each. Solicitation should be finished by March 15. Thirty canvassers for Greene with 10 more for each township planned.
Interstate Power Company releases its 1956 Annual Report showing net income of 2,997,647 up 135,930 from 1965, with 9,513,367 in plant additions to serve 114,060 customers. Electric revenues rose about 7 percent while residential rates dropped to 3.15 cents per kWh. Taxes and expenses climbed, gross peak load reached 168,068 KW, and about 29 million in new securities are planned for 1957 construction and acquisitions in Mason City and eight nearby towns.
Francis Brinkman won a three year term on the Greene Community School Board with 219 votes while Dr B V Andersen captured 191 and Dale Crosby 180. Brinkman was reelected, Andersen joined the board, with 379 voters casting ballots and 11 spoiled. In the county at large race Floyd Roifs led with 186 votes and Gertrude Stockdale had 178, 21 spoiled ballots.
William B. Grady born Greene May 26 1883 died at his Ruthven Iowa home February 10 after extended illness. Karen Curtis advanced to the Iowa High School Speech Association state contest after earning a division I rating at the Mason City district contest. She is Greene community's first to reach state, directed by junior class president with a background in drama, music, radio speaking, and cheerleading.
Mrs Harold Wiebke left Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City on Saturday after undergoing surgery.

The state Conservation Commission extended the deadline to April 15 for free tree orders. ACP payments cover up to 70 percent of planting stock costs. Over 75 000 Austrian pine plants are oversold. white or red pine, hardwoods like multiflora rose Russian olive black walnut green ash white ash and red oak remain available. Pine price is 20 dollars per thousand. The Butler County Medical Society lowers the polio vaccination fee to $3.00 to encourage wider use of the vaccine available for all residents.
The Clark Rest Home operated by Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Clark has completed upgrades in Greene northeast Iowa. The building, three blocks west of the bridge on highway 14, now features fireproofed basement and back stairs, fireproof doors, Edwards automatic fire alarm, marked exits, carbon dioxide extinguishers on all floors, and expanded supplies. Alberta Mathers oversees nursing care with 17 beds available.
About 700 people attended the annual meeting of the Greene Farmers Incorporated Co op Society. Otto Schafer was elected to succeed Dale Crosby, Clyde Stuntz and John Byatt were re elected, with J M Bruce, James Stuntz and Roy Taylor as directors holding over. Officers named were Galen Miller president Claude Kanter vice president Clyde Stauiz secretary and Harry Backer treasurer. Don Edson spoke on European grain dealer trips and Belva Tindall discussed the International Live Stock Show. The association voted refunds to members 11 cents a bushel on grain bought and sold and 7 1/10 percent refunds to members.

J. E. Hartwig reports 149 acreage reserve agreements signed by 5 P M March 8 deadline. Total payment 99162.91 for 2296.1 acres removed from corn production. Some signers requested extra acres up to 1002 with 42130.30 more. Agreements on a first come basis and rely on available funds.
Rev James Parks and son Kenneth along with Mr and Mrs Loren McRoberts and others traveled from Greene and Charles City after attending the Youth Conference in McPherson Kansas. They attended morning worship in Ottawa Kansas and dined with Rev Gerald Mease and daughters Leanna and Karen. Mease serves the Church of the Brethren in Ottawa and previously led Greene Church of the Brethren.
In hospital Mrs Clauae tanter is a patient in the Alien Memorial hospital in Waterloo for observation. William Johnson is a patient in the Mercy Hospital in Mason City where he is receiving treatment.
Mr and Mrs Roy Thompson returned home last Wednesday from a nine weeks vacation in Florida.
The Ramblers trailed most of the first quarter before Iowa Falls pulled away to win 85-60 in the district tournament. The game showcased Iowa Falls' depth as the deciding factor in the later periods.
About 40 high school students attended the Youth Center gathering Friday evening supervised by Mr and Mrs Francis Teeple and Dr and Mrs B V Andersen. The center announced a ping-pong tournament with a 10c entry fee, registrations taken by Annette Green this week, with Clyde Frudden in charge. The center will be open Friday 7 00 to 10 30 supervised by adults.
Nashua High School principal Richard Sorenson addressed the Greene PTA meeting on Tuesday in the school gymnasium. He outlined four problem student categories and urged parental friendship with children while stressing teacher and parent roles in reform.
The American Legion and Auxiliary will hold a county meeting at the Veterans Club on Wednesday evening March 20 at 8 o'clock. Third District Commander Chet Van Potter of Eldora will attend. Red Cross disaster officer Mrs. Harry Hamperl will speak on flood-area experiences. Entertainment is organized by Mrs. James Drake and refreshments by Mrs. Vern Rottler.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Varner of Charles City welcome daughter Cindy Sue born Saturday morning March 9 at Cedar Valley hospital. She weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces. Mrs. Varner, former Irene Alden of Greene, is the mother.
Clergymen who want social security protection and have not filed waivers must submit them by April 15, 1957, per District director Frank M Halpin and Social Security Administration manager Earl T. Johnson. Waivers already filed remain in effect. Those who do not elect by then may lose coverage for 1956 and later years. Form 2031 is used and available from IRS district offices or SSA offices.
