Leaders of soil and water conservation in Butler county met on March 15 at Allison to review progress in the 1957 government cost-sharing program and to make recommendations for the 1958 ACP. J F Hartwig noted local meetings form the first step in crafting the national plan, with input from ASC committees, Soil Conservation Service, Extension Service, and other agencies. Recommendations move to the Iowa ASC office and then Washington, guiding the 1958 national and state programs and shaping county plans.
The First State Bank of Greene and the Aredale State Bank were commended for exceeding their 1956 quota in U S Savings bond sales to individuals. Series E and H bonds counted. Wall plaques with the treasury seal were presented to D H Ellis and W K Juncker by Jack W Row.

New residents Mr and Mrs Jackie Adams of Rockford welcomed a daughter born March 13 at Cedar Valley Hospital. Audrey Skillen, former of Charles City, is her mother in-law. Dale Willey and wife welcomed a son named Gregory Dale born March 19 at 10 48 pm in Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing six pounds. Max Wegand and wife welcomed a daughter at Cedar Valley Hospital Charles City weighing eight pounds. Martin Senne and wife welcomed a daughter born March 18 weighing 8 pounds 13 3 4 ounces.
The Floyd County Beef Producers Association will hold its annual meeting at Rockford School on Tuesday evening March 26 at 8:00. Walter Marsh of Greene is president. Lew Thompson of Bath Packing Co in Waterloo and Bill Smolek of the Extension Department Town State College Ames will speak. Lunch by Prairie Fuel and Supply Co of Rockford.
Mr and Mrs Oscar Bartels spent Friday through Monday visiting their son Pvt Lee Bartels who is stationed at Fort Smith Arkansas. Pvt Bartels has received training in communications and will leave Friday for overseas duty.
Patricia Jane Hagarty daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Hagarty of Arlington Virginia was received into the Benedictine Order of Sisters at Bristow Virginia on Sunday March 17th She is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Bert Hagarty of Greene

In 1956 these two months totaled 22 percent of the annual goal, with Butler County at 151183 dollars for 16 percent of the year’s target. A congressional bill would raise interest on Series E and H bonds to 34 percent at maturity, applying to bonds purchased since February 1, 1957.

The local Youth Center will sponsor a ping-pong tournament on Tuesday April 2 at the High School auditorium. Pairings will be announced in next week's Recorder. Thirty five youths attended Youth Center activities near Greene Public Library Friday evening with Dr and Mrs B V Andersen and Mr and Mrs Darrell Davis supervising. The center will be open again Friday evening from 7 to 10:30 with parents supervising.

The postponed sale of Louis Marzen Sr. will be held Monday March 25 starting at 10 oclock sharp. It was moved from March 18 due to bad weather.

Mrs Cliff Crane had surgery at St Joseph Mercy hospital in Mason City last Wednesday morning and expects to return home this weekend. Mr Karl Kleinschmidt underwent surgery at Cedar Valley hospital in Charles City on Monday morning.
A Des Moines bus trip carried Iowa Farm Bureau ladies to a Wednesday tour of the state legislature. They visited the State Farm Bureau building the state capitol governors offices senate and house chambers the state house cafeteria the Rehabilitation Vocational center and Meredith Publishing Co.
