Vote March 11 School Election and Board Support

The editor urges readers to vote on March 11 and back the school board as it begins a pivotal period of reorganization and expansion. Mrs. G Stockdale seeks at large Butler County School Board seat. Gert rude, as known locally, is a candidate. The column notes a quiz question and promotes scout uniforms donation and participation in scouting, urging safe driving by elders near the school and recalls an ace bowler from a better team that shot 84 last week.

Iowa To Be Featured On Monitor Program

Iowa will be featured on NBC Monitor this Sunday March 10 over WHO Des Moines with radio commentator Alex Dreier delivering a ten minute talk. Clare Kessel of the Iowa Development Commission announced the feature which salutes the state with music a greeting from the governor and Dreier's remarks.

Two Teams Compete In State Bowling Tournament

The Bristow Elevator bowling team featuring Carnel Jensen, Dick Hansen, Cliff Truex, Don Bonner and Lou McKinney scored 2497 in the 3 game handicap event at Dubuque last Sunday. The second team, including Al Rognes Jr, George Sneed, Robert Curtis, Roy Henline and Frederick Nordmeyer, finished with 2500. Rognes Jr. had the high local single game with a 212.

Rites Held for Mrs. H. L. McCulla in Greene

Vivian Lenore McCulla died March 1 after a lingering illness at age 72. She taught school before marriage to Herbert Lindsay McCulla in 1908, lived in St Ansgar Mason City and Osage, then Greene eight years ago. She was active in Presbyterian Church Daughters of the American Revolution P E O Altruistic Club Women’s Club and community causes including Cancer Society Tuberculosis and Heart Association. Survived by husband Herbert and two sisters Marian L. Sampson and Winifred Henigar. Funeral at Greene Funeral Chapel 2:30 Sunday conducted by Rev G F Butler. Burial in St Ansgar Cemetery.

Butler Sil Conservation District Celebrates 10th Year

The Butler Sil Conservation District marked ten years in the county with a Wednesday meeting at the Farm Bureau Auditorium in Allison. Bob Moore and Vivian narrated slides from Paris while Rev. Robert Niederwimmer gave a blessing.

Youth leaders to attend Brethren conference in Kansas

Rev. James Parks and Loren McRoberts will depart Thursday morning for the Brethren youth conference in McPherson Kansas and return Sunday afternoon. Seven or eight Greene and Union Ridge church youths accompany the leaders. Rev Becker of the Methodist Church will lead Sunday morning service in place of Rev Parks.

Five File For Greene Community School Board Posts

Five candidates filed for the Greene Community School District board seats to be decided at the Greene High School gym on March 11. Terms arise from a district realignment. voters choose two for two and three year terms with two write-in lines present. Eligible voters must be 21 plus, Iowa resident six months, county resident 60 days, Greene district resident 10 days. Coldwater Township residents are not eligible until July 1, 1957.

Farmers Elevator to Hold Annual Meeting

Stockholders of the Farmers Incorporated Co op Society of Greene will meet in the high school auditorium on Saturday March 9. Lunch begins at 11 30 a m. The business meeting starts at 1 00 p m with election of three directors and other business. Don Edson will show pictures of his European trip and a Youth Public Speaking Contest winner will speak. Miss Irene Weitert of Budapest will speak during Youth Week at Bennezette Wesleyan Methodist Church March 17 to 24. Services start 7 30 p m daily except Saturday and 11 00 a m Sunday. Ramblers Stop Rockford String At 23 To Win Class A Tourney

Greene Ramblers win the Class A Sectional title defeating Rockford Mohawks 43 to 40 in a close game. Jim Gravyen scored the final basket after a tight fourth quarter with key contributions from Andersen Shultz Graven and Waller. Greene used seven players and claimed the title on a late out of bounds play with 3 seconds remaining.

Beguelin Died in California at Ventura Burial Planned

Henry G Beguelin died in Ventura California on Tuesday February 26 born January 26 1880 in Highland Illinois. He studied civil engineering at Greenville College Illinois. Survivors include wife Jane son Henry Jr and daughter Marion Hall all in California six grandchildren four sisters and three brothers. Funeral and burial set for Saturday March 2 in Ventura California.

141 Entered First Meats Hog Show at Apilington

The first Butler Meat Hog Show recorded 141 entries at Ap lington on February 26. The junior division had 71 entries with 4-H members Eddie Adamson Dixie Faint Connie Faint and John Marks and FFA members Duane Tyabring and Richard Brouwer taking the honors with two or more winners each. Eddie Adamson had the first place hog in each division. The senior division was dominated by Edward Adamson Le Roy Faint James Oltman Ralph Marsh and Harm Haan who had two or more winners. The first place hog in the lightweight was shown by Bob Schrage and William Wiebke and Son had the first place heavyweight entry.

Local Woman Mourns Death of Louise Dralle

Mr and Mrs Karl Kleinschmidt announce the death of Louise Dralle at 78. The mother of Mrs Kleinschmidt died March 1 and funeral services were held March 5. A son Fred Dralle of Allison survives. The Kleinschmidts recently returned from a four month visit with her.
