Army Corps hearing on Cedar River flood control measures
On March 2 in Mason City the Army Corps of Engineers held a public hearing for Cedar River basin flood control needs. Officials say 800000 acre feet storage is required to prevent Waterloo floods, but only five upstream sites meet this, offering about 160000 acre feet. They proposal includes lowering water upstream before runoff, spillways, and removing blocking islands. Local notices mix reader commentary with community updates on residents visiting relatives and church activities.
