The editor jokes about the hearings as potential comedy or drama while lamenting rising national debt that outpaces space rockets. The Sportsman's Club met Friday evening at the Veteran's Club with about 110 attendees. An oyster stew smorgasbord was served, guest speaker Charles F. Olofson of Des Moines, hunting safety officer for the State Conservation Commission, presented safety films Sex in Geese and Safety in Handling Guns along with conservation officer James Gregory of Butler and Franklin counties. An officers election named Glenn M. Ressler president Harald Shultz vice president and Bill Walker secretary treasurer.
Doug Trees captured first in the 95 pound class at the Osage District Tournament, earning a state bid to Waterloo Friday at 7 00 p m. The Ramblers finished tied for eighth among 26 schools as Trees defeated Jim Gilmor of Central Elkader in 3 53 of the first round and defeated Wittkop Jesup and Funk Osage by decision. Clark Allen placed fourth at 180 pounds, narrowly losing to Thompson Janesville and then to Saunders Stormont in wrestlebacks. Other first round results included Larry Noel and Dick Wihlin both dropping decisions.
Loon v. J. Tatum, Greene heads the Education subcommittee on Financing Education and Building and Facility Needs. The committee includes L. G. Bailey, Manly Irving Larson, Buffalo Center. L. V. Briggs, Hampton. W. H. Biederman, Osage. Mrs. Eben P. Swanson, Mason City. L. G. Stevens, Northwood. Harry Oit, Greene.
The Greene Ramblers will meet CAL Community of Latimer at Latimer on Thursday night at 7 30 in the first round of the Class A boys sectional basketball tournament. Sectional finals are at Charles City Saturday with Class B winners at 7 and Class A winners at 8 30.
Mr and Mrs Jim Klunder of Nashua welcomed a son named Joseph Lee born on Saturday February 12 at St Joseph Mercy Hospital Waverly He weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces Grandparents are Urban Kelly Alvin E Klunder and others with great grandparents Will Steere Sr Melusine Klunder and Vera Sours listed from Greene Clarksville and Nashua.
Mrs Dale Poppe spent from Thursday to Saturday at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City where she received treatment and then returned home.
Mr and Mrs Donald Berk of Charles City welcomed a daughter born February 10 weighing 6 pounds 8 ounces named Teresa Marie. She is the 12th grandchild of Mr and Mrs Henry Berk of Charles City.
State College of Iowa in Cedar Falls hosts a Saturday music clinic for pianists and vocalists titled Local Vocalists to Attend Music Clinic. A 7 30 p.m. concert featuring the Blue and Gold choirs will be free and open to the public in SCI Music Hall. About 700 Iowa high school students will participate in the two choirs under conductors Charles Mateson and Harrison Boughton with Greene county students contributing on piano.
The Butler County Cattle Feeders Banquet will be held Tuesday March 22 at 6 45 p m in the Boyd Building Shell Rock. Russell Hummel president of the Butler County Beef Producers Association announced an excellent program with featured speaker Orion Samuelson Farm Service Director WGN TV Chicago. The night includes a price guess contest and officers election. Tickets are on sale from local feeders and Extension Office Allison.

Richard Bruns was admitted to Floyd County Veteran's Memorial Hospital at Charles City on Sunday morning for treatment.
Mrs Pearl Fisher Butler County Vice Chairman receives a plaque from E A Hayes Mount Pleasant State Finance Chairman honoring Butler County for reaching 100 percent of its 1965 Republican Party goal at a statewide finance meeting in Des Moines on February 19. Harry Downs underwent surgery in Miami this winter and is recuperating at his son in law and daughter Fred Van Dyke residence in Miami Florida.

Mr and Mrs Mel Yerkes welcomed a son born this morning at the Hospital in Charles City. The infant weighs 7 pounds 12 ounces.
A Social Security Administration district representative will visit the Allison courthouse on March 2 16 and 30 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. per Earl T Johnson Dorty Manager.
The Stare Conservation Commission noted that badger, skunk, opium beaver, civet cat, and raccoon trapping seasons end at midnight February 28. Raccoon hunting also ends that day. Officials said trapping was spotty statewide with some areas reporting good luck, and last year's season benefited from long open weather.
About 134 Greene Community Schools pupils in grades five through eight plus chaperones and staff attended the 10th annual Invitational Grade School and Junior High School Music Festival in Mason City on February 19. 63 blue ribbons signaled superior performances, with 12 named students earning the honor across instruments including clarinet, flute, saxophone, cornet, trombone, and tuba. Red ribbons went to 43 performers and white to 15. Ensembles and piano accompanists also contributed strong showings as teachers and guardians supported the event sponsored by the Worth Central Iowa Bandmasters Association, with results released by band director Ray Holtz.
Greene Ramblerettes lost a close sectional game to Rockwell Swaledale 71 to 67 at Rockford ending their tournament bid. Ann Rattler led scoring with 38 points, Peggy Willey grabbed 10 rebounds and 17 points, Flora Stubbe had 10 rebounds, while Mary Rottler added 4 free throws. The team closes with an undefeated conference mark and a 27 game Corn Bowl streak entering next season.
The Floyd County Beef Producers Association will elect three directors for three-year terms at its annual meeting banquet in Club Iowa Charles City on Tuesday March 15 at 6 30 pm. Tickets available from board members and Floyd County Extension Office in Charles City.
Charles W. Bochmann USN son of Mr and Mrs Henry F Bochmann Jr of Greene Route Two is in seven weeks of basic training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego California. He learns naval history organization customs and courtesies ordnance and survey seamanship damage control first aid swimming survival shipboard drills and sentry duty under vetern Navy petty officers. Upon completion he will be assigned to a school shore station or ship based on tests desires and Navy needs.
NIAD executive committee representatives from each county are naming members to two new area study committees focused on culture and taxes. Each of the seven full NIAD counties will have three members on each committee, while Butler and Wright counties will provide two members apiece.
Miss Marilyn Bundy vocal music teacher at Greene Community School had surgery Monday at Sartori Hospital Cedar Falls and will stay several more days for recovery in the hospital.

Lloyd George Crooks, 24, of Dougherty was arrested February 16 in Charles City by the Sheriff’s office in Allison on an alleged charge of defrauding an inn keeper. He pleaded guilty in Dean Wiegmann's Court in Allison and was sentenced to thirty days in the county jail for staying at a Dumont motel for a month without paying.
Charles City head of NIAD Business and Industry Committee announced that 26 North Iowa towns with populations over 800, plus several smaller communities, have completed or will have up to date fact files by March 1. The information will be included in the area brochure mailed to 4,000 industry prospects nationwide this week.
Berton Shultz returned Thursday from Rochester Minnesota after surgery at Rochester Methodist Hospital. LeAnn Wilken daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale Wilken came home Tuesday from University Hospital Iowa City where she was treated. Mrs Carol Kingery and Mrs Estella Dailey joined Mrs Wilken and LeAnn in Iowa City on Friday. Mrs Kingery went to Iowa City Tuesday and brought her daughter and granddaughter home.
The ninth grade Cadette Girl Scouts plan a June trip and will collect old newspapers to raise funds. Residents are asked to save papers and have them picked up the last week in April by troop members. Those wishing early disposal may call Mrs Ralph Litterer for pickup.
