William Henry Shreve 85 died March 3 at Clark Nursing Home. Born June 8, 1880 on a farm near Allison, he married Johanna K. Rossen in 1906. They farmed until 1945 then moved to Aredale. Survived by four sons, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at EUB Church Bristow. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery west of Bristow.
The Farmer's Inc Co op Society of Greene will hold its sixth annual meeting at the high school auditorium on Saturday evening March 12. Free lunch starts at 6 00 p.m. and the business meeting at 7 00 p.m. Three directors will be elected and other business may be conducted. Guest speaker will be Mr. Vernon Lewis of the Consumers Co operative Association of Kansas City Missouri.
The Young Republicans of Butler County will meet in the court room at the courthouse in Allison this evening at 8:00. They will elect delegates to the Young Republican Convention to be held in Waterloo on March 11.
Pvt. John D. Osier son of Mr and Mrs Donald J Osier Greene completed a helicopter repair course at the Army Transportation School Fort Eustis Virginia February 25 He trained in repair and maintenance of cargo and troop helicopters The 21 year old Greene Community High School graduate of 1963 was employed by Oliver Corporation Charles City before joining the Army in August 1965 and completing basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri
The Greene High School Auditorium will host a March 16 concert at 7:45 featuring the 76 piece high school concert and stage bands. Highlights include Capriccio by Giovannini, Blowing Woodwinds by Schanke with a woodwind quartet, and Concertino by Weber with Cheryl Brinkman on clarinet. Subscriptions for records will be offered and refreshments served.
Greene City Council member and mayor pro tem Leonard Nichol and town attorney Norman Graven attended a public hearing on Cedar River basin flood problems in Mason City. The session was led by the Rock Island district office of the Army Corps of Engineers under congressional authorization for a basin study.
Everett Merrill 66 died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his Hansell home Sunday afternoon. A Bristow native, he is survived by his wife Elsie Boyd of Greene, son Robert of Hansell, daughter Mrs. William McElroy of Mason City, his mother Mrs. Joe Merrill of Bristow, several brothers and sisters including Percy Merrill of Bristow and Mrs. Gilbert Kuhn of Charles City, and grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 PM today at the Han sell church with burial in Dumont Cemetery.

Copies are available locally and filed with the Iowa Development Commission in Des Moines for access by industry prospects.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Nelson welcomed a son born Wednesday March 2 at Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital Charles City. The baby weighed 10 pounds 7 ounces and is named Phillip Lee. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Phillips of Corning and Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Nelson of Lenox.
Mary Kyle 55 born September 8 1910 Greene daughter of Joe and Ann Kohlhaass Kyle died March 2 in Bristow. She lived in Greene until her mother’s death then resided with brother Joe and sister Bernice in Bristow. Surviving sister Monica of Greene. Service at St Mary’s Church officiated by Rev Joseph Murphy. Burial in St Mary’s Cemetery. Reid's Funeral Chapel arranged services.
C M V I reports Harvey Joe Kneppe 40 of Parkersburg arrested in Ap lington Saturday by Butler County authorities on operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He appeared in peace court in Allison Sunday with $500 bond posted. A passenger, Leslie August Dring 65 of Parkersburg, charged with intoxication, pleaded guilty in Allison justice court and paid a $50 fine plus $4 costs.
The Greene Ramblerettes coached by Ken Sulten win the Corn Bowl Conference with a 10 0 league mark and 15 5 overall. Front row names include Linda Stuntz Flora Stubbe Marilyn Johnson Marg et Senne Bonnie Siemens Ann Rattler Pegey Willey. Sutton's squad has four straight conference titles and a 27 game conference winning streak. Debra Osijer, daughter of Don and, was taken to Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital for emergency appendectomy.
Linda Hardy a senior at Cornell College Mount Vernon and daughter of Od Mre Warren Hardy Harmony Minnesota is on the dean's list She is practicing teaching in Cedar Rapids and plans to join the Peace Corps in June with a goal of being sent to northern India
The Greene Community School schedules parent teacher conferences on Wednesday and Thursday, March 23 and 24. No school for kindergarten or for grades 1-6 on March 23. Parents will receive a card with time and place. questions to elementary secretary 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. at 823-5629.
James T. Gregory state conservation officer in charge of Butler and Franklin counties will retire April 4 after a long career begun August 6, 1941. He worked in Shell Rock Hampton and Geneva areas, with successors named for Butler and Franklin counties.
Kindergarten roundup will be held Friday March 18 at Greene Elementary School. Children must be five by September 15 to enroll. A through M registrations 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. N through Z registrations 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. Bring birth certificate and pay a $4 book rental fee. All to ensure accurate next year supply orders.
Three youths aged 16, 14, and 13 were captured in Clarksville on Thursday morning by city marshal Doyle Doty and the sheriff's office. They escaped from Mendota State Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, allegedly stole a 1958 station wagon, then a 1961 model car in Clarmont Town before being caught. A Phillips 66 Station window was broken during the escape attempt. State hospital authorities returned the youths to Madison on Friday afternoon.
Donald Stewart departed Wednesday for the Marine Air Force Base in Memphis Tennessee to begin special training after a 20 day furlough spent with his parents Mr and Mrs Kenneth Stewart and relatives in Cedar Rapids.
Junior students from Butler and Franklin County high schools may attend a Further Education Night on Wednesday March 16 from 7 00 to 9 15 p m at the Hampton Wieh School. Three representatives from four year colleges junior colleges nursing business and trade schools plus Armed Services will be present. Parents encouraged to attend and local schools will provide bus transportation.
Greene Ramblers lost 63 58 to Hampton in the district semifinals at Charles City. Daryl Barnett and Jerry Fischer each scored 19 points to lead Greene while Hampton’s Zimmer Missildine and Heilihov contributed 20 19 and 13 points respectively. Greene finished the season with 15 wins and 5 losses.
Seaman Recruit David C. Ritter, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace W. Ritter of Greene Route 1, is seven weeks into basic training at the Naval Training Center in San Diego California. Under veteran petty officers he learns naval history organization customs and courtesies ordnance and gunnery seamanship damage control first aid swimming and survival shipboard drills and sentry duties.
Mr and Mrs Robert Bixler of Rolling Meadows Illinois announce the birth of a daughter on Friday March 4 weighing 7 pounds 1 ounce. The infant was named Shaun Mary. Mrs Bixler is formerly Vicki Burroughs daughter of Cliff and Mrs Burroughs of Greene.
Donkey basketball returns next Tuesday March 15 at the high school gym. Greene Jaycees sponsor two contests starting 8 09 p m with farmers versus merchants, then Jaycees versus the high school team. Donkeys will be labeled for rider distinction amid playful local rivalries and a light hearted cry for orderly mounts.

Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts will sell cookies from March 12 to 19. The troop retains part of the profits for camp funds while the council uses the rest to help cover camp expenses.
Mr and Mrs Edward Meyer announce the birth of a son on Saturday March 5 at Floyd County Veteran's Memorial Hospital Charles City weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces named Thomas William. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Herman Miller Greene and Mr and Mrs August Meyer Clarksville. Thomas has four sisters Anita Diana Rosemary Heidi and three brothers Steven David Stanley.
