A joint Senate House subcommittee agreed to substantial raises for highway patrolmen and state bureau of criminal investigation agents. An appropriations panel voted to raise salaries by 60 dollars monthly in year one and 30 dollars in year two of the biennium, while Gov. Harold Hughes warned he would veto a bill prohibiting the state from retiring state employees and restricting scholarships and extracurricular participation. Mr and Mrs Blum plan to move to Cedar Rapids this fall for teaching positions in the Cedar Rapids Public School System.
