Mrs Nina Palmer received word of the death of Fred Palmer 81 of Grafton North Dakota. He died Sunday morning June 4 in a hospital of cancer. He was the last living member of his family and is survived by his wife.
Mrs. Charlotte Marshall reports that Marble Rock American Legion Auxiliary Stroud Gates Unit 387 collected 63.50 on Poppy Day May 27, a new unit record. The ladies thank all supporters for the success.
EON 3 Paul Shultz arrived from Viet Nam on June 1 to spend a 30 day furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs Raymond Shultz. At the end of the furlough he will report to Port Hueneme California.
Mr and Mrs Bill Hodge of Rudd welcomed a baby daughter named Angelique Lea born Friday June 2 at Mercy Hospital Mason City. The infant weighed six pounds twelve ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Clifford Smith of Marble Rock and Mrs Edna Hodge of Rudd.
The Marble Rock Study Club sponsors a Story Hour at the Marble Rock Library this summer. Sessions run Fridays at 2 PM for six to eight weeks with children divided into two groups. Registration is open and readers may choose any subject within their range.
Floyd County 4-H members will attend state camps this summer. Vicki Ewald and Beverly Fish of Marble Rock will attend the State Conservation Workshop June 12 17. Donna Tack of Floyd and Dave Shollenpbarger of Charles City attend the State Leadership Conference July 17 22. Camps are at the State 4-H Camp site near Madrid.
The Confirmation class of 14 members was received into church membership during services in the Methodist Church Sunday morning. Four members, Sharon King, Marjorie McNeilus, Nancy Reams and Harlan McNeilus, were baptized before the reception. The other ten admitted members were Duane Kingery, Randy Bushbaum, John Salt, Gary Tweed, Kimberly Kingery, Julie Ewald, Mary Ann Stone, Diane Carney, Lorrie Nielsen and Celia Feltus.
Eighth grade graduates of St Marys School Roseville receive diplomas at the ten oclock Mass on Sunday May 28. Students named include Nancy Kolber Regina Koenigsfeld Diane Shindelar Doris Schmitt Karen Staudt Gregory Marten Tom Balkenende and Paul Bjelica.
Mrs Thelma Carrott from Rockford Mrs Galen Gates from Greene and Genevieve Staudt were guests at Mrs Marcus Staudt rural Scott Township home for a Wednesday Bridge Club gathering. After a one oclock luncheon, high honors went to Mrs Walter Bohl and second to Mrs Irene Barth.

The Methodist Youth Fellowship met Thursday evening May 25 with eighteen members, leader, and two guests. Guest speaker Lowell Carney spoke on What About Gambling. Duane Kingery led the meeting which planned one summer monthly meeting starting June 8 and a skating party at Clear Lake on June 2. The Lions' Club met later Thursday in Marble Rock Town Hall with American Legion Auxiliary providing dinner before Don Krambeer, president, led the business session.
The 500 Club met at the home of Mrs. Louis Staudt Tuesday evening. High score was won by Mrs. Leander Merfeld with second place going to Mrs. Joe Staudt. Mrs. Staudt served lunch.
Marble Rock locals Mr and Mrs John V Prohaski and family camped in Yellow River Forest near Waukon over the weekend. Mr and Mrs Don Lewis and granddaughter Rhonda Rock of Minneapolis were dinner guests Sunday in the home of Mrs Lewis parents Mr and Mrs Galen Rex.
Rev and Mrs Sheral Gregory and Sherrie visited at Altoona with Wayne Weaver. Larry McNeilus and Jackie from Charles City dined with Mark Staudt family. Verne Lines hosted a dinner for visiting Sacramento relatives plus many Lines families. Forty seven attended the Lines gathering at their home. Pat Merfeld returns from Mt St Clare College to summer with parents Bern ard and family. Marie Smith leaves Luther College Decorah for summer work in Lawton Oklahoma. Ray Morse and family of Chariton joined Edward Merfelds for a Floyd County Fair social and Iowa P OA Family Day attendance. Visitors stopping by include Howard Victor Spencer Renee Keith Stone and families.
