Greene celebrates 1965 improvements and new pool gift
The 1965 Greene year saw major upgrades led by the late Mrs. W. H. Buchholz gift of a new swimming pool with ample parking and near Conservation Park. The Koester property was chosen for the site, and Shafer Construction of Winterset built the $69,000 pool. Other 1965 gains included a new fire truck, Fi Bar Bowling Alley, railroad crossing signals, and street widening. Federal flood relief funded storm sewers repairs. Interstate Power’s substation tie to Iowa Public Service improved reliability, and 500,000 walleye fry plus 50,000 northern fry were stocked in local waters. New homes for several residents were built in Greene in 1965.
