Topics include production practices fertility varieties timing planting rates weed and insect control and overall management. Sessions run January 18 and February in Allison at 9 30 a m to 3 30 p m with a 3 dollar two day registration fee includes meals and handouts. Sign up deadline is January 11 at the Allison Extension office.
Mr. and Mrs. Mont Clifton of Hemet California visit Iowa City with Jane Witwer a University of Iowa student. They stay this week in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Witwer and their sons.
The Butler County Extension Service released its 1965 activities report led by Norman Brown as council chair. Key programs included swine, dairy, soil and water, home economics, 4-H, and community development in partnership with Iowa State University and USDA. Staff delivered 269 meetings with 10 926 attendees, handled 8 428 requests, produced 517 articles, 70 radio talks, and distributed about 13 800 bulletins to Butler County residents.
Francis Grendler of San Francisco California comes to day for a visit at his parents Mr and Mrs August Grendler. Two golfers win improved awards at Round Grove Golf and Country Club George Sneed and Greg Dralle receive Golf Digest gold certificates from Oscar Bartels.

The tattooing of 4-H and FFA baby beef projects begins in January per County Extension Associate C Dean Johnson. Animals must be haltered and tied before tattooing. Township sessions: January 5 in Dayton 8:00 to 12:00 with Lowell Allen. January 7 in Bennezette 12:45 to 2:00 with Dean Debner. Coldwater January 7 2:00 to 3:30 with Aaron Jewell.
Final standings for the first half of Wednesday Hot Shot League show Van Dyke Limestone leading 39 25 with Farmer's Coop at 38 26 and Jim's Standard at 28. High scores include John Stock 204 200 595 and Gene Robbins 529, Jim McLennan 529, Galen Miller 205 528, Jim Knapp 527.

Superintendent W J Tatum presents to Greene Community School Board on Title I funding under the Elementary and Secondary Act of 1965. He cites rising federal expenditures for education, dropout rates, and racial disparities, urging accountability and noting forthcoming 1968 law incentives for improved standards. The note references Francis Keppel and various federal programs supporting local schools.
Luther College Choir will perform at the Greene High School auditorium on Sunday January 9 at 11 00 a m replacing the morning worship at St Peter s Lutheran Church. Two local bars sing with the group Donald Devies and William Thompson present.
Mr and Mrs Paul Drahas announce the birth of a son named Thomas Paul on December 12. The baby weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces. Mrs Drahas is formerly Jeanene Jewell of Greene. Grandparents are Mrs Ruth Jewell of Greene and Mr and Mrs Albin Drahas of Mount Vernon.
The Youth Center will be open on New Year s Eve Friday December 31 from 8 30 p m to 12 30 a m All children in grades seven through 12 may attend Adult chaperones will be present.
Richard Lindell, son of Mr and Mrs Glenn Lindell, entered Al ten Memorial Hospital at Water loo Monday afternoon and underwent surgery on his right knee arm Tuesday morning. Filmer Mennenga is a patient in the Veteran s Hospital in Des Moines where he underwent surgery on Monday morning.

Mrs Nelson Cornell goes back to her Altus residence after several weeks staying at the Brunsma home with her son in law B G Brunsma and family.
Tinda Jackson plans to return to Baldwin Louisiana on Saturday after spending the holidays with her parents Mr and Mrs Kenneth Jacks at their home.
Albert Keifer came home on Tuesday last week from Floyd County Veterans Memorial Hospital in Charles City after receiving treatment.
Tom Walker has finished basic trainings at Fort Knox Kentucky. He is spending a two week furlough with his parents Mr and Mrs Douglas Walker and family before reporting to Fort Benning Georgia for advanced training.
Holinois stayed from Christmas Eve to Tuesday with his brother Dean Davis and wife and children in Woodstock. Parents Mr and Mrs Charles Davis of Cedar Falls joined for Christmas Day.
Mr and Mrs Robert Bathke hosted Christmas day dinner with their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs L C Johnson and children Leslie and Robbie of Newton and Mr and Mrs L H Johnson of Albert City Iowa all visiting at the Bathke residence.
The Ramblerettes lost 106 to 62 to Allison at Rockford on Tuesday. Ellen Mosher led Allison with 54 points while Greene’s Ann Rottler scored 34 for Greene. The game saw early leads and strong shooting by Allison, as Mosher and Green combined for a decisive second half.
Robert Curtis announces the Post Office will be closed all day January 1st. No rural carrier service, but mail will be distributed to local boxholders and dispatched as usual.

Most aliens in the United States must report their addresses to the government, with forms available at post offices and INS offices during the month. Willful failure to comply may lead to serious consequences.
Teon J. Glaspie, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Glaspie, enlisted in the Navy and began basic training at San Diego California. Leon J.
