Iowa Senate votes to probe state agriculture department
An Iowa Senate vote approved a five by five investigative committee to broaden inquiry into the Department of Agriculture. Democrats sought wider scrutiny of the sericulture office and past Republican administrations after the firing of Richard Dennter, a LeMars milk inspector earning 58,000 a year, amid controversy over the department’s leadership and alleged political missteps. Gov Harold Hughes cautioned against melodrama and urged fact based scrutiny.
