In National Boy Scout Week the ad salutes local Scout Leaders for their time energy and service to the community. Leaders from Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts across Tenderfoot to Brownies are praised for teaching life skills and citizenship. Encourages enrollment for interested boys and girls to join scouting.
Sectional tournament at Osage produced one district qualifier, Dick Wihli, who placed second in 133 pounds by defeating Terry Larson of Rockford and Newton of Nashua. In district rounds, Wihli won 6 to 2 over Michaelson of Dike before a 14 to 1 loss to Dewey of Britt. Other sectional results include several wrestlers competing in wrestle-backs and eliminations across weight classes from 95 to heavyweight, with mixed wins and exits.

Four farm sales are planned in the area this February. Mrs. George Wedeking’s sale near Marble Rock is Friday February 12. Raymond Wagoner’s sale near Dougherty is Tuesday February 16. Cliff Crane of West Greene holds his sale Saturday February 13. Leonard Barker’s sale south of Greene is Thursday February 19. Sale bills appear in this week’s Recorder.
Mr and Mrs Lyle Maxson returned home on Thursday from Santa Barbara California where they spent several weeks visiting their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs James McMahon and family
Mrs. Herman Edeker age 60 of Allison died Sunday noon when the car she rode in collided with another on a county road north of Allison. Six others injured, including Roy Edeker's family. Drivers admitted to Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo. Kevin Edeker treated at Mercy Waverly, later released. Funeral at Wilmar Church. survivors listed.
Pooley Lumber Company runs a treasure chest sale with multiple prizes during a special sales event. Store owner Dwight Pooley notes a special bonus for several lucky customers as the event continues.
Mrs Claire Curtis is back in Charles City after a stay in hospital and major surgery performed January 28.
Melvin Shorty Schuknecht aged 61 died in Orlando Florida last Wednesday after a long cancer illness. Born August 1902 to Frank and Myrtle Schuknecht he ran a taxi service before WWII and lived in Alexandria Virginia before moving to Orlando about ten years ago. Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Gardner a daughter Sandra Bradford of Orlando six brothers Vernon Mount Airy Harlan Anaheim Franklin Elwin Galen and Ivan Greene his father Frank W Schuknecht Greene. His mother and a sister Frances preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Saturday in Orlando with Fairchild Funeral Home in charge. Elwin and Franklin Schuknecht of Greene attended.
The Girls Sectional basketball tournament begins Saturday evening with games at Allison, Aplington, and New Hartford. Parkersburg meets Ramblerettes at Allison at 7:00, and Allison-Bristow faces Nora Springs Rock Falls in the nightcap. Other pairings include Rockford at Aplington and Dumont at New Hartford. Semis at Allison Feb 19, with consolation and finals Feb 20.
Greene town council accepted 996. The estate of Mrs. Etta Buchholz provided 15 671.59 dollars plus five 1 000 dollar bonds and earlier deposits totaling 70 000 dollars. Attorney James H. Graven presented the final payment to Mayor William Ramker for the swimming pool project with C M Shafer Construction of Winterset.
Mrs Nina Eikenberry mother of Mrs Everett Squires died Tuesday afternoon Reid s Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements pending further notices.
Mrs Herman Miller underwent major surgery. She is a patient in Charles City Hospital.
The 1965 Town fishing regulations place crappies and silver bass on the continuous open season with no daily catch or possession limits. The list of fishes is released by the State Conservation Commission and notes a continuation on page 12.
The 1965 Red Cross membership and fund drive begins February 15 with Butler County set at a 4665 goal. Forty five percent stays in the county where 858 children took part in the Red Cross swimming program last year. Transportation to the pool is paid by each child. Red Cross covers instructors and two pool fees per child. Twenty five people enrolled in the first aid course in 1964 and about 585 was spent on home services. Butler County had no natural disaster in 1964, with funds aiding other regions.
The Girl Scouts conduct a paper drive in Greene asking residents to save old newspapers. Pickups can be arranged by calling Mrs. Donald McBurney or Mrs. William Astor.
The Men's City Bowling Tournament concluded Sunday with Leo Gabe and John Backer taking doubles. Galen Miller and Galen Maxwell tied for top singles, Greene Lanes won the team event, and Warne Feldman led all events. Scratch winners list Greene Lanes team Garden Maxwell and Sam Sneed for doubles.
A heart attack claimed the life of the local resident. Survivors include his wife and a sister, Mrs Oscar Stille, of Waverly. Burial will be held in Lenwood Cemetery at Clerksville.
LeAnn Welden ten year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale Wilken was admitted to University Hospital Iowa City Sunday morning in the Children’s Ward Rein 120 Iowa City Iowa.
All Greene Community School instrumental musicians from grades five through eight travel to Mason City on Saturday February 13 for the annual Solo Ensemble Festival. Over 115 students, 11 piano accompaniments, 8 chaperones and 4 contest managers accompany from Greene. More than 2,500 students from many North Town communities participate in the festival and Greene students must perform a solo annually under band director Ray Holt. Each student will be rated by examiners and receive a critique and ribbon based on performance.
A fragment notes that Joserä Mitte treated Feyereisen at Cedar Valley in Charles City on Monday, indicating a hospital visit or treatment occurred in a local medical setting.
The 23th Annual National Farm Institute convenes February 11 and 12 at Hotel Ft. Des Moines Des Moines. Program begins 9:00 AM on the 11th and concludes Friday afternoon with theme Imports Ex ports and Farm Property. Rex Meyer of NIAD Agriculture Committee invites farmers and others, wives welcome, to attend the Des Moines Institute.
The Ramblers beat Saint Ansgar 72 to 58, snapping a 28 game Corn Bowl Conference streak by the visitors. Greene led with 23 of 61 shooting while Ott and Fischer contributed strong scoring. Saint Ansgar struggled from the field but made 15 of 19 free throws. Ramblers hit 13 of 23. Bench spark from Clapham and Barnett helped the Ramblers pull away in the third quarter.
The annual meeting of the Farmers Cooperative Creamery Association stockholders was held in the high school gymnasiumSaturday. About 170 attended the noon luncheon and enjoyed stage entertainment. Budalfson of Mason City spoke as guest, with Arlie Meyer and his juggling Sams of Searville providing acts. Clair Johnson was re-elected president and Leonard Litterer as vice president. Lowell Allen was elected secretary-treasurer, with Ted Brinkman Harley Hansen and Duane Smith named to the board.
Butler County representative Charles E Grassley denounces a 1500 pupil district reorganization plan as dictatorial. He argues the State Department would impose on taxpayers and that the State Superintendent acts beyond the State Board’s authority, insisting the superintendent be subservient to the board. Edward Arnold Nikolas, 75, died Friday at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital Osage after a two year leukemia illness. Born Feb 22 1889 near Marble Rock he married Marie Marten in 1912. He farmed in Powersville then moved to Osage two years ago. Surviving wife five sons Edward Jr Donald Leo Eugene Far l. three daughters Frances Ferch Bette Ewoldt Pauline Vala. three sisters Minna Ackley Erma Bronsena Henry Lang. one brother Herman Nikolas. 29 grandchildren two great grandchildren. He was preceded by a son Clair two sisters and two brothers. Services Monday 10 am Sacred Heart Church Osage Rev Lloyd Reuter. Burial Calvary Cemetery Charles City.

On March 1 at 1:30 PM Dr E P Sylvester and Sr Harold Stockdale Extension specialists from Towagate University will discuss current problems and control methods at Allison.
